Had a beautiful weekend this past weekend so I detailed a customers rare 06 EVO IX Special Edition. This car has all the features of the popular MR Edition just without the 6-speed transmission, this car was a 5-speed and a very nice car to work on.
Upon arrival the car was filthy, there was no way these wheels had been touched in over a year. Paint was slightly oxidized, and customer admitted to not having washed it in 6+ months. I had my work cut out for me, not to mention the 3M invisible shield the car had on it the customer wanted removed. After having the customer fill out the necessary paperwork I started in on it.
Steps for Washing:
-Pressure washed with 1800 psi Electric pressure washer
-Foamed (Dwell Time: 5 mins)
-Sprayed off again
-Foamed and wiped w/ Lambswool Mitt
-Rinsed
-Iron-X whole car
-Rinsed
-Dried w/ electric leaf blower, air compressor, and wiped the rest with Cobra Supreme Guzzler.
Removal of Invisible Shield:
I was very fortunate in this step, I let the car sit out in the sun to warm up the surface for the removal of the Shield. While doing this I started the removal of the wheels and tires because there was no way I was going to try and clean these on the car. Also I wanted to polish and seal the Brembo calipers. After lunch I pulled the car into the garage and began the process.
Started out with the Dual Mode heat gun on the low setting and pulled off the passenger A-pillar section of the shield, No adhesive left behind at all. So, feeling confident I started on the hood of the car without the heat gun, making sure to always pull at a 70-90 degree angle away from the surface, pulled off perfectly. The rest of the removal was flawless. The only thing I can think of was the installer must've done a fabulous job or this Shield had not been on the car very long at all. The 70 degree weather and not a cloud in the sky played a huge role in this process IMO
My only tips for this would be:
-Always pull the Shield off at a 70-90 degree angle
-Make sure surface is warm.
-Use heat gun if cold or if not removing in sunlight.
-If any adhesive is left over use 3M Adhesive Remover
Car was then clay barred with DP Clay & Clay Lube
Step One: Compounding
Not much to be said here.
-GG 6" DA Polisher
-Wolfgang TSR
-Lake Country 6.5" CCS Orange Pad
Step Two: Polishing
-Wolfgang Polish
-Lake Country 6.5" CCS White Pad
Step Three: Sealant
-Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Sealant
Finally onto the wheels:
-Pressured washed
-Wolfgang Uber Wheel Cleaner
-Scrubbed
-Scrubbed
-Scrubbed Again (Barrels and all)
-DP Wheel Glaze
-Dressed with Wolfgang
Car was then washed one more time and picked up.
Sorry in advance for the cell phone pics and there is not many pics as I was running out of daylight very quickly. My camera has turned up missing somehow and I can't find it. (Long Story)
Thanks for your time!:dblthumb2:
