Extractor or Steamer?

Someone with more expertise will have to chime in on that one. To me it seems that an extractor will do a better job of pulling the water out.

Well - I can say from experience that it is the same if not better to use a wet/dry vac.... I have used some extractors that don't suck nearly like that of my vac (5.5 hp i believe). I know this from having an extractor crap out on me vaccuum wise and I had to go back after each pass and use my wet/dry vac. My main concern in the difference is the amount of psi that is getting pushed in there. Hot injection from a vapor steam system.... or 100 psi from a hot water extractor - which one wins?!?!?!

Can't answer that.....that's why I decided to have both :dblthumb2:

Which extractor would you recommend?

I have used the Mytee Lite II for many years (about 6 or 7 years) and loved it.... but I steamer was goin to replace that if it is equivalent in quality turnarounds - Im hearing a lot of mixed reviews though through PMs and past threads.... so not sure which way to roll here.

100 psi vapor steam, higher temp water, less of it which leads to less drying time, important in getting out quick details on cold days where drying time is a nightmare

True - I talked to a taxi service that may want interior services done on a regular basis - even if not as effective, maybe dry time is the selling point there?!?!?! Good point man

You guy's using an extractor, be sure it's dry or your customer may have a mold problem on their hands.

I only use a steamer (Dupray). A good extractor on carpets is hard to beat.

That did look really nice (Dupray).... only 5,000 is a bit much for me right now - may be on my wish list after this thread though - this is the best extraction tool you have used?

From a business standpoint doing anything on the commercial side, would it be easier to tell someone your going to clean x using a vapor steam system that will not only permanently kill odor and bacteria, but will dry in minutes and won't use chemicals that could possibly be harmful to someone with sensitive skin, or tell them your like the next guy and gonna use an extractor, but don't get me wrong, a good extractor does amazing things to super jacked carpet, but that's where it stops, a steamer can be used else where

hhhhmmmm - that does sound really good from a sales point of view. I think I may get the vx 5000 - and upgrade to the Dupray when I hit the lottery lol!

That vx 5000 is pimp, don't hesitate, will last forever, and still will kill everything bacteria wise

Cool - I have been struggling with this decision all winter long believe it or not lol! I have always used an extractor.... but I believe the uses of a steamer are much greater, but didn't want to loose the quality turn around on carpets either..... very tough seesaw decision for me!

Ive never used the dupray steamer/vac so I don't know if it's as good as a good extractor on carpets, but I do know the vx 5000 will get out some pretty nasty stuff without the wicking effect, commonly found in cheaper extractors with low suction

Well - I think I'm sold on teh VX-5000, BUT ..... if it doesn't perform up to par with what I'm used to (Mytee Lite II) , then I will definitely have both in my arsenal before summer. But I am really hoping for the VX-5000 to do at least an equivalent job on carpets so that I don't have to fork out another 700 to 900 dollars.
