Got a call from one of my regulars about his neighbor who wanted his truck taken care of. This customer was mainly focused on making the truck look better. It had some VERY HARSH water spotting...the worst I have ever seen. It was heavily compounded on the passenger side with M101 and a MF cutting disk and LC purple hybrid foamed wool pad followed by D300 and then D301 on a Megs MF Polishing disk. The water spots were not removed completely as this would require some wet sanding that just wasn't in the cards for this job today. The rest of the truck was hit with D151 and Optimums MF polishing disk. Trim was dressed with Meguiars Ultimate Protectant, and rubber was dressed with ShowRoom FX white pearl.

On to the pictures...

The truck sits for weeks at a time in the owners drive way being battered by HARSH well water sprinklers. This is after being washed and clayed using the medium speedy prep towel. It removed a ton of contaminants but didn't touch the spots.

It also had a fair share of swiling going on:

And refined... notice the water spotting still faintly remains:

Overall, the customer was happy with the end result but I was not. The truck sits for two weeks at a time as he works in the oil field and the truck sits and bakes with spots on the truck.

Thanks for checking it out!

Questions/Comments welcome!

I would say that is some of worst spotting I've seen as well.

Good job though for what you did, and glad to hear the customer was happy.:props:

VERY nice looking truck, you did a great job!

You mentioned that you weren't really happy with the end results. I also find that when working on these huge trucks that I am not always happy with the end results. The problem is that guys buy these huge trucks and absolutely trash them and they want them detailed in 1 day.

I've found that these really big trucks, especially lifted trucks are a 2 day job. But, I can't seem to ever get these guys to commit to that kind of time or money (probably 400 plus for a 2 day job). A good solid full detail on a truck that size could easily take 12 to 16 hours, but almost nobody will pay for it, so compromises have to be made. I hate compromises, but you have to give the customer what he or she wants in the time that he wants it in. This usually leaves the customer happy but me wishing I could have done a little more and made more money.

I spent two days over labor day weekend detailing a buddies 09 Dodge Ram Crew cab. It had never been waxed, clayed or anything the three years he owned it. Always kept outside. I was able to remove all water spots and scratches. Only water spots remain where i couldn't get a pad to. Needless to say I wont be doing another full size truck without prior inspection before agreeing to do it.View attachment 13539View attachment 13540View attachment 13541View attachment 13542View attachment 13543View attachment 13544View attachment 13545View attachment 13546View attachment 13547

No priors :-/

Yes, this spotting was terrible. The whole passenger side was literally white. Thank you sir!

Thanks, Jomax!

It's been bothering me all week since completing it. As I mentioned, the truck sits for periods at a time. Anytime i detail or correct a vehicle I always ensure to educate the owner on how to properly care for their car. His neighbor (my regular) went out and spent (let me put a nice package together for him) a good amount to properly care for his C6 z06 and it still looks as flawless as it did right after I corrected it.

I'm going back this weekend to care for his wifes Tahoe and I'm going to try and talk him into letting me work on it some more and hitting it with at least some 3000 grit. We will see.

I agree! Nice looking truck!!

Excellent job, that is one badass big red truck.

Thanks Fast Eddie!

I like the 3000 grit option with a 105/205 follow up.
Any chance some DG755 could have done some good?
Going to be trying 755 this weekend on somebody's car that said they had bad sprinkler spots. Hope it's not that bad.
Oh yeah....the inspection step...good one and great effort.

How did you get in around the brush guard? Was it removed?

Nice job btw.

No, it was not removed. The tighter areas were hit with a Griots 3" polisher, and the rest (only a few small areas) were hit by hand and a foam two sided polishing oval.

Nice job Brian. It looks a lot better but I can understand not being happy with the final results when dealing with something like that. It's hard to get it to a place we are happy with when we are limited to what the customer is willing to let us do.
