Favorite Car Wash

I have no experience, I've only ever tried Sonax and Meguiars NXT and Meguiars Ultimate Wash & Wax. I like the UWW, apparently it's more "slippery" than the NXT, and I like the smell.:>

There are a few other brands available locally from an online detailer store, so I might eventually try something else, like one of the concentrated CG ones. I like slippery.

I think a price per wash index is very helpful. I wonder if there is a way to come up with a performance index?!?

The dilution of the dp should be much lower, IMO. At least 2 oz. per 4 gallons.:xyxthumbs:

I noticed WG and Pinnacle were crazy expensive in the price per wash department.

I'm curious to see how some of the more affordable options compare in performance against the crazy expensive ones.

The dp directions say 1 oz to 3-5 gallons. I averaged that to 4 gallons which is 1 oz per 4 gallons thus 512:1 when we are talking about a whole wash since I said a wash is 512 oz.

Regardless If I did that wrong, Im pretty sure I said that you need 1 oz per wash in the next column. Some of the price per wash were surprising. I guess you're saying that you need more then what they say which would make it more expensive.

The dilution ratios played a big role. Some you need a gallon to do 32 washes and some you only need 8 oz!

Optimum is still my favorite soap, when I'm done with my PB SnS I'll be ordering more Op.
Also DLB made this a while ago but here is a chart based one price per once

I have three...ONR when I can't wash conventionally, CG Citrus when I want to strip wax, and my new favorite CG Glossworkz. These are for my own car. If I was looking to actually make money washing cars I'd stick with Duragloss 901 or Megs Gold Class. In fact if I were buying products for a detailing business where making as much money as I could and still put out a high quality product I'd never buy any boutique type high end stuff and I'd be a 100% megs shop.

  1. Duragloss 901
  2. Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo
  3. DP Extreme Foam Shampoo

My favorite is still Optimum but there are a lot of good soaps. I have been trying many. As of late Griots, CG Maxi-Suds, Prima, and Adam's.

For some soaps with imprecise dilutions (1 to 2 oz per bucket)I tended to like them at more concentrated than the instructions (no way 1 oz per 4 or 5 gallons).

As for lubricity, I am still trying to figure out how people compare soaps. The between the finger lubricity you feel in the soap bucket is misleading since ONR or DP Rinseless do not feel slick at all.

What I have noticed is that the sudsier soaps seem slicker because I theorize the suds seems to saturate my wool wash mitt better giving a layer of soap so it glides better.

Al I agree with this about 200%! Maybe it's my age but I've become very suspicious of most manufactures claims because I've been manufacturing all my life. I ounce of a product in 4 gallons of water is BS!......In my opinion of course!!

I judge them by the amount of suds they produces, how my wool mitt glides across the surface, how long the solution maintains a good head of foam, and how effective it is in dissolving surface contaminates and debris.

Bingo!! :props:

So would you rate the three you listed as being high in suds and lubricity? Or are there others you have tried that are more so, but you prefer those three for other reasons?

I've tried ALLOT of car washes through the years and some work while others don't fair as well. The soap has to contain sufficient ingredients to perform while leaving the finish protection alone.

I rate car washes on these factors

  • Won't attack the sealants and waxes.
  • Ability to dissolve surface contaminates and debris
  • Lubricity
  • Staying power; decent suds throughout the wash
  • Cost

Thanks. I'll go with any of those three as an upgrade from Meguiar's. None of them are available locally but I see that our local supplier has Pinnacle clay, so I'll ask them if they could get the Pinnacle shampoo next time they do an order.

If I were buying locally Meguiar's Gold is a really nice over the counter soap and it works very well..

being a foam gun user, i like DP XTREEM FOAM. i also got to try CC MAXI SUDS II. that was also killer in the foam gun. really a toss up between the two. DP is on the expensive side. i jumped on 2 gallons when it was BOGO.

Plain old original DP. That stuff smells the best and leaves a nice shine.I also like Duragloss.

-Pinnacle Bodyworks(when dirty)
-Dodo Supermatural(garage kept maintence wash)
-CG citrus(to strip)

ONR gets added to Pinnacle to add more lube. I still need to try Born to be mild.

To date, WG Auto Bathe. Expensive but amazing. As you know, I will be trying out BTBM this week, so things, "may", change.....

I'm with Ted I Love all of the Wolfgang products...
