Hi everyone, hope eveyone is well. Just wondering, what is your current favorite machine, compound, and pad when doing heavy correction?

Just looking for some suggestions. Already have a nice array of polishers, and many different compounds and pads. Thanks everyone.:xyxthumbs:

Well, up until recenty I would have said Rupes with the green or blue pads and FG400. But, now I would say the Flex with LC hybrid pads and Menzerna FG400. The Flex just destroyed the Rupes in terms of speed of correction...at least in my hands.

This could be just my abilities, but I would not have started off with the Flex. Looking back at my newbie self, I'm glad I transitioned up from the GG to the Rupes to the Flex. I'm sure MANY others could have started off with the Flex, but I think I would have been a little frustrated by the power and forced rotation of the Flex.

Now, I'll be going to it for just about everything.

Flex 3401 with Lake Country Blue Foamed Hybrid Wool 6" Pad or Orange 5" Hybrid Pad and Menzerna FG400.

Rupes LHR 15ES BigFoot with Rupes Blue Coarse Pad or Grey UHS System or Lake Country Blue 6" HD Orbital Pad with either Rupes Zephir Coarse Gel Compound or Menzerna FG400.

DAS 6 DA Lake Country 5.5" Flat Yellow Pads and Menzerna FG400.

Machine - Hitachi rotary
Pads - LC Hybrid orange or Purple Foamed Wool
Product - Menzerna FG400

As asked, this is usually my go to for heavy correction. The orange hybrid leaves a little less to correct after than the PFW.

I started on the pc. I wanted. to uprage. I tried the new megs polisher, rupes 21 and the flex. I certainly have a lot to learn but I think I could've handled them. What it was is the long handles. I couldn't get used to holding the trigger down and i couldn't hit the continuous button. I'm so used to the pc that i got the rupes mini and im gonna get the duetto. I love it. It's the short handle

Started with the PC7424 XP. I still use it for my "mini-polisher" from 1" to 4" BP/Pads.
I upgraded to the Flex 3401 and could not be more happier. It is IMO the best DA out there bar none. That again, is my opinion.

As for product I use for compounding/polishing:

Compounding: Menzerna FG400 with Lake Country Orange Hybrid Pad 5" and 6.5"

Polishing: Menzerna SF4500 with Lake Country White Hybrid Pad 5" and 6.5"

Another excellent compounding/polishing product: Polish Angel Compound and Polish Angel Final Polish. You can get them on AGO's sister site Autopia.

Boss G21, then Flex
Menzerna products, LC hybrid pads/Hydrotechs, work well on both machines.

Flex 3401, green hex logic pads, and Meguiar's M105. This is for the times I don't want to mess around. I already have plans to purchase the PE14 rotary. I'm going back. I started on the rotary, and nothing I've used since comes close to "my style" of polishing than the rotary machine.

I love that machine - the Duetto. Sometimes I'll substitute the zephyr for M105 on blue Rupes microfiber pads. That's a pretty solid cutting combo as well.

For what it's worth, I hate the long handles too. Always have.

I wouldn't say these products are my favorite, because when it comes to defect removal my favorite is really whatever accomplishes my goals for that car with the least amount of work and time.

Machines:
Flex 3401- What can I say about this beast that hasn't been said already. The more time I spend using it the more I have come to appreciate it.
GG6- Even though I have the Flex I still find myself using the GG6 quite a bit. Not to mention a lifetime warranty from defects from Griots.
GG3- The only time I use this machine would be restoring headlights or maybe spreading out a LSP.

Products:
Scholl Concepts S20 Black- This might be one of the best products I have used for a one step correction. It will remove heavy to moderate defects and finish down amazing. Even on softer paints it still finishes great.
Megs Marine line #67 one step compound- I would say 75% of the time when working on gelcoat I reach for this first and normally end up using it.

Pads:
Carpro Flash pads- For the amount of cut you get from these pads the finish is amazing. When this pad is the right choice for what I am doing I have never been disappointed.
Scholl Concepts Spider pads- The downside to these pads is the price. After I finally decided to give them a try I was mad that I had not tried them earlier.

For heavy correction I typically use:

  • Rupes 21 w/ washer mod & 5" backing plate.
  • Meguiar's Microfiber Cutting Disc.
  • Meguiar's M100 or M101 compound.

Then again, for heavy correction, sometimes I'll use something like:

  • Rupes 21 w/ washer mod & 5" backing plate.
  • Meguiar's Microfiber Finishing Disc.
  • Excessive amounts of M205 finishing polish.
It really just depends on the paint and what the test spot is telling me. :buffing:

Flex 3401 / Lake Country Hybrids (blue wool if needed or orange foam pad) / Menzerna FG400

Soft & médium paint: RUPES LH21 + Meguiars MF pads + (FG400/S3 Gold/HDCut)

Hard paint : Flex Pe14 + wool pad + FG400

For 1 Step : Rupes 21 + Rupes yellow pad + S20 Black

Rupes LHR21
Meguiar's Xtra Cut Discs
Shine Supply Flat Top
