I'm sorry if this has been posted before, which I'm sure it has... but thought I'd start a thread and kick it off.

When I was a kid, I was a huge James Garner fan. I loved The Rockford Files and all the tricks Jimbo could do with that Firebird.
Later to find out, James Garner did all his own driving and stunt on that show and specified what he wanted in a car to do it with.
It was the gold Pontiac Firebird Esprit, which really wasn't an Esprit. In James Garner's book, The Garner Files, he explains that in order to get the performance he needed to do the stunts, they needed a Firebird Formula 400. The problem was the character, Jim Rockford, was living "off the rack" never getting paid, always in debt and trouble with the LAPD, therefor his character couldn't have the best of anything.

They took a Firebird Formula and down dressed it to look like an Esprit. Jim used Firebirds models from 1974 to 1978, with Pontiac giving his production crew three new models every year... and he had to destroy one at least every episode. Kept his repair guys busy!!! Unlike the 19" b&w TV which I originally watched the show own, my HD 50" TV and my detialers eye catches all the repair work... LOL.
Despite the show went into 1979, James Garner refused the 1979 Firebird's from Pontiac because he didn't like the redesigned front end and thus stuck with the 1978's... Even in the reprise DVD Collections from mid to late 90's (collections 1&2) the 1978 Gold Firebird makes it's appearance again, and yes, they get trashed in almost every episode. But James stated his real love was pickup trucks, thus Rocky's truck was involved in the production. Even in the DVD series he drives a sweet Chevy P/U truck.

So, if money was no object, along with garage space... I would love to have a gold Firebird Formula 400 dressed down to replicate Jimbo's 1977/78 Firebird Esprit. That is my favorite...

The second and most obvious for me is the Bullitt Mustang... I realize Steve McQeen used two in the production, and the whereabouts of them now or at least the one in the chase has rumors abound that it's in a barn somewhere and the owner will not confirm it's existence. I read it on the internet so it must be true... LOL! :)

Tough question, with no easy answers.

As a teen, I fell madly in love with the Lamborghini in "Cannonball Run".

Of course, the '58 Plymouth Fury in "Christine" made me wish my '72 Chevelle was a self-repairing, revenge-seeking, demon. (Mostly the self repairing part, and occasionally self fueling would be nice.)

I still want an Eleanor (from the original, not that crappy remake).

Of course, every car from "American Graffiti" and more specifically "Hollywood Knights".

But lastly, my number one always was and always will be, the Bluesmobile.

The Dodge Challenger in the classic movie "Vanishing Point"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA4ymmXa8rs

Five Alpine White Dodge Challenger R/Ts were lent to the production by Chrysler for promotional consideration and were returned upon completion of filming. Four cars had 440 engines equipped with four-speeds; the fifth car was a 383 with automatic. No special equipment was added or modifications made to the cars, except for heavier-duty shock absorbers for the car that jumped over No Name Creek.[9] The Challengers were prepared and maintained for the movie by Max Balchowsky, who also prepared the Mustangs and Chargers for Bullitt (1968). The cars performed to Loftin's satisfaction, although dust came to be a problem. None of the engines were blown.[9] Loftin remembers that parts were taken out of one car to repair another because they "really ruined a couple of those cars" while jumping ramps between highways and over creeks.[9] Newman remembers that the 440 engines in the cars were so powerful that "it was almost as if there was too much power for the body. You'd put it in first and it would almost rear back!"[9] The Challengers appear in the film with Colorado plates OA-5599.

No, seriously, my favorite cars were the following:

1. Hawk's BMW in Spenser for Hire
2. Magnum PI's Ferrari
3. KITT
4. Dodge concept car from the movie The Wraith

Sent via my mobile device...

As a Miami Vice fan there are several articles on the cars. The Daytona was indeed fake, it was a Corvette. The original Testarossa was said to also be fake, and quickly replaced by several real Ferrari's. It was offered that they actually used a Pantera for several of the performance scenes with the Ferrari. As a young lad, I drooled over each of the cameo cars also. Many unique cars can be found over the series.

Other Car Stars :

Coyote -- Hard Castle and McCormick
Audi -- Transporter Series, Ronan
Trans Am -- Knight Rider, Smokey/Bandit
Mustangs -- Gone 60 Seconds , Bullitt
Interceptor Dodge, -- Wraith

Batmobile from the first Michael Keaton movie.

Ecto 1, from original Ghostbusters.

The futuristic car from Charlie Sheen movie, "The Wraith", i actually own the DVD:)
