With the current promo this newbie is finally going to place his first order. Can someone let me know if I missed something or should make a change?

I currently have a non-XP 7424 with a 6" backing plate, Mothers clay, Duragloss 501/601/105 and two new/newer light peaslescent/metallic cars that are garaged with paint in category 2.

Both cars had a coat of NXT 2.0 applied a few months ago along with 2 coats of Mothers Pure Carnauba. I live in the upper Midwest so the weather isn't kind to the paint. I want to step it up and go back to using my PC which I used many years ago with Four Star products.

I plan on ordering:

a 5" LC backing plate
a pad conditioning brush
some DP Pad Rejuvenator
a CCS White pad for the DG501/601
a CCS Blue pad for the DG105/601
a CCS Red pad for the DG111/601

In the fall I was going put down the 105/601 and 111/601. In the Spring I would clay, do the 501/601, then 105/601 and finally 111/601.

Any thoughts?

Maybe instead of getting the red and blue pads, get Orange, white and blue, the orange is a cutting pad in case you need something stronger for defect removal, white for polishing and the blue for wax application.

Also, I wrote this article specifically for all the millions of people with first generation PC's in their garage...

How to MAXIMIZE your DA Polisher

If you own a Porter Cable style Dual Action Polisher, this would include,

  • PC 7424
  • PC 7336
  • Meguiar's G100
Of which all of the above were sold for a time span of over 25 years, which means there are a millions of these tools in shops and garages across the world, then here's how to maximize their ability. Use small buffing pads.

Thanks Mike. It's an honor to get a response from the legend himself! :)

I like the suggestion of getting an orange pad, but I will probably add it to the list instead of replacing anything. Is there a polish you would recommend for a newbie? I think I would be OK with the 501 as I get just a little swirling, but friends and family tend to be in a little rougher shape. Perhaps some M205?

I have wanted to try out the DG line for a while and, from the research I have done here, the DG fans really like the the 501/white pad combo.

I am also a little confused as to whether to use the 105 or 111 as the LSP so I decided I would just use both. :)
