What kind of tape do you guys use when you use it? Is blue painter's tape OK?

I see a lot of people using what appears to be regular masking tape.

The reason I ask is I am going to compound and polish a couple of cars. One is a Vert and I was going to tape around the edge of the top.

Because I'm used to using last stage products that don't stain and that you can even use on headlights and tailights, I"m not a big taper. But thought I would use it for the convertible and the rubber trim around a sunroof.

Tx in advance.

I use the green 3M 233+ masking tape. Although this is overkill for taping off trim and the like for polishing use (its designed for body shop environments) I find the superior power over other tapes ideal. This will hold on to just about anything even if that surface has some sort of protection on it. The blue tape won't hold as well and often times just won't adhere.

3M Scotch 233+ Premium Automotive Masking Tape, scotch car tape, detailer masking tape, car masking tape

I agree. Good tape is critical. I have found the blue tape sometimes leaves something behind which is not good either. I'm really sold on the 233 - though I will confess to having used Frog Tape successfully.

The 3M 233 is my new tape of choice as well. I did use blue painters tape for years without any issues but it was on and off asap after it's need.

06656 3M Automotive Refinish Yellow Masking Tape is what i use.

I used blue painters tape once. Spent more time removing the line it left behind than I did doing the correction work I was trying to do a before/after of. I haven't bought any of the 233 yet, but I will...

Tampatopless - The green 233 tape is the right stuff. Sometimes the blue tape leaves residue. Sorry I missed your PM earlier.
