Filed for my LLC today, will be official on Tuesday next week.... My official company name is Desert Detail and more. Good thing I added more in the end of it, just for any rainy days here in the desert I can get into other stuff that can keep me busy, and make me money. So far I won over a few key players in my town, and word of mouth is spreading. Looking for a place in five years, that way I have the customer base, and all my equipment needed to run it successfully. This is awesome, and thank you Autogeek for turning me onto a awesome forum.

Got to fly out for your classes, so soon me and the wife are coming to Florida to learn from the best. Got figure out hotels, vehicle to get to the classes...

Still got a lot to learn, and thanks to Auto Geek, I will perfect the art form of detailing!

Not being funny.... But what does
LLC stand for? I see its business related and its what im looking foward to.

Congrats! I got mine back in Feb and here in MA they really stick it to you...hopefully you didn't have to fork over as much money as I did.

Congrats. My hat's off to anyone who has the fortitude to do this for a business. I've done 3 cars for fun, and it's a lot of manual work. Thank God I found easier ways to make money. Like I told my nephew: "If hard work was such a great thing, the rich woulda kept it to themselves. They didn't. You can draw your own conclusions from that."

Congrats! :xyxthumbs:

That is a big step to take and one that will pan out over the years.

Congratulations. I will be filing mine this summer. I still do not plan on this being a full time gig, but want to make it that way eventually.

Yeah I shooting for a five year plane to get my customers, and equipment in check before leaving my full time job. Atleast all the I purchase for the business can be written off, so thats a plus.

Now tell us the REST of the story: how many hours did you spend researching and writing a business plan before filing paperwork?
Really didn't write a plan, just talked to sucessfull customers of mine, and picked their brain. Going all out in five years, and learn something new every day.

Why, i'm not doing this full time... Wanted to the legit thing, don't want uncle sam finding out I was doing something illegal.

As long as you're aware of the tax and legal requirements that come with having an LLC-type corporation that could be fine... but in my opinion it doesn't matter how part or full time you are, you should always take the time to plan out your operation before you do anything else.

Also depending on your state's requirements, you don't even have to "file" anything other than a DBA if you're not operating under your own name. The only requirement for a sole proprietorship (in Michigan, at least) is that you report your net earnings over $400 on your 1040 tax return.

I hate to see people start off down a business path without being as thorough as possible. With the sheer number of small businesses that fail early on you owe it to yourself to get informed -- even a successful part-time business is more than just filing for articles of incorporation, considering yourself "legit" and hoping for the best.

Just don't want anyone reading this getting a wrong impression about how "easy" it is to start a business, that's all.
