Hey guys,

I am thinking about expanding my service list by working with profesionnals doing services I am not currently offering.

These include:
- Windshield repair
- Clear bra installation
- Windows tint installation
- Paintless dent repairs
- Rim repairs
- Leather repair
and maybe other things I can't think off right now.

Do any of you do this? If so how are you doing it? What kind of percentage do you take and so on?

Also how would you approach the person for offer the alliance? I have searched for mobile services for tinting and clear bra installation so far and found very few companies doing that. I contacted one by email and did not receive an answer so either he is completely not interested or he is no longer in business.

Any advice regarding this would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what school my buddy took in California for detailing, but they did teach about windshield repair and some rim repair. I think those services are easy enough that you wouldn't need to outsource. Maybe rim repair, but windshield repair is a big money maker that you can usually have insurance pay for (as long as it's not in the primary viewing area of the driver: 12" left and right of the center of the steering column and within the wiper arc). When you are good at it, a repair takes about 15 min and was told you can charge about $100 per repair. If the customer has to pay out of pocket, I'd probably charge quite a bit less. It's an easy service to add if you are already there. Full kits when I checked start at around $500-800 if I remember correctly.

When I was working with my buddy's business, we had a go to guy for PDR referrals, and the same guy would refer us for detailing. We used it as free advertising but not for direct revenue from their work.

If you wanted to approach other businesses about services, I would say don't ask for a percentage cut. Just ask if they would do any type of referral program. My buddy gave $20 to anyone that referred someone that paid for a full service detail. It's basically paying for advertising, but only when the advertising actually brings in business. You could reciprocate the refferal deal for them.

Thanks. I have watched a few videos on windshield repair, including the one Larry did for his show Drive Along. The feeling I got watching the process is that it's kind of an art, you have to get the feel for it. So that means I would need to get some formal training. But you are right it could be a good side revenue.

Regarding Rim repairs, I have watched several videos and I think it's pretty easy and straightforward. My issue is that if you want to do a good job I feel you need to take the wheels off the car and remove the tires... that is pretty much impossible being mobile. Also it is quite time consuming. I figured it would take about 3 hours per wheel and I doubt people would be willing to pay that kind of money when you can get new mags for about the same price (40$/hour price).

DPR is again an art, I have watched detailed videos on it and know it's not something I would be good at ;)

That's for the advice regarding the referral program. How do you implement it though? Hard to know if people will do business with the person you refer them to.
