Fine polishes?

I have been trying to gather up a nice assortment of products for my 2 new vehicles. I have plenty of pads and lsp's but I don't have that "go to" polish yet. My paint is in very good to excellent condition. They are daily drivers and get weekly washes so there are some random light scratches. Yesterday I went on a quest for a bottle of Meguiar's 205 or Ultimate polish. I couldn't find either! Before I order I am hoping to find out the difference between these two products. I have searched for days but haven't found the answer. It seems like I can't go wrong with either, I'm just trying to find out which will suit me best. Thanks in advance,

M205 should do the trick for light scratches. Where did you look for it?
 
M205 is the professional version of Ultimate Polish. Both are almost identical chemically, although Ultimate Polish has alot more polishing oils in it. Meaning it has a slight filling effect. It also has a little less cut than M205 and since it has more oils, a little longer working time.

I use both in my arsenal. I use UP for vehicles that need very light swirl removal, and M205 after compounding with 105 OR when I need a bit more cut than UP. Hope this helps.

I went to Napa since they carry the professional line, but they were closed for New Years. Even though it was New Years Eve. I can get it sooner from AG since I don't know when I'll get back there ( I live in the sticks).
 
M205 and Ultimate polish( UP ) are very good products........UP is available at most auto parts stores and Walmart. You may find that 205 or UP might not be aggressive enough for what your trying to accomplish and I would pick up some Ultimate compound (UC) also available OTC.

Thanks for the replies!:xyxthumbs: The closest Autozone is an hour away. Needless to say, I do alot of shopping online. I'll probably try both. I've enjoyed working with all the Meg's products I've used so far.

I picked up the Ultimate compound yesterday. I got some in a paint repair kit from Advance Auto for $10, marked down from $30! My paint seems very soft so I'm a little hesitant to try any compound. I really just want to clarify everything before LSP.
 
I ordered my 205 around Christmas from Amazon Prime on sale.

Don't forget that every time you spend $50 at Autogeek you get a free sample. Place 2 orders and you can have 8 ounces of Wolfgang Finishing Glaze. It's a good way to try things out.

very understandable......least aggressive method is best.

I have found UP at many auto parts stores but NAPA wasn't one of them.

^^lol.....I've been collecting samples quite a bit recently. It's funny you mentioned that WFG. I just tried a little this evening. I was impressed by the little test spot I did. I need a little more cut than that I think; for some spots anyway.

Ultimate Compound finishes off really nice on soft paints. I recently took care of some garage door damage to my trunk with UC and UP. I wrote a thread about it on Auto Detail 101 section.

Have you tried Wally World? Lots of Wally World's now carry many of Meggys pro products. Either that, or maybe you have a local auto paint supply shop, many usually carry Meggys. Mark
 
I lack in this area as well, lots of LSP's but limited in a good assortment of polishes.

When the weather gets milder, and it's time to drop more money with the AG folks, one word is on my mind.....Menzerna. They'll fit the bill nicely I'm sure.
 
Powerfinish is my favorite. Think the older version is better, still have about 10 oz left I am saving. New version is still really good though.

No luck at Wal-Mart. I did find Meg's #26 wax at Ace Hardware though.

Paste or liquid? I find in my personal experience that any paste LSP that has a liquid counterpart, paste always performs better in the looks & durability department. I recommend applying #26 paste with a small foam applicator to your DA pad. It has a very buttery consistancy but the way the tub is designed, I dont think you can take it out of the tub like you do with dodo waxes.
 
For both a medium cut polish and fine polish I use Optimum Hyper Polish. Great stuff! How you want it to cut depends on what pad you use.

I will def check that product out. I havent used many Optimum products other than ONRWW recently and I was blown away.

Liquid. I did try a little on my hood, we'll see how long it last. My hood has about 4 different lsp's on it in different sections:).
