I am thinking about using 1000p as the winter wax for our glacier blue CR-V. I haven't decided yet. I've been using Ultima Paint Guard Plus since we purchased the vehicle a year and a half ago, and I love it. It's so easy to apply and I can use one product to seal paint, trim, and cladding. And it seemed to get us through the winter months well enough.

But I have this tin of 1000p, and durability is one of its strong points. My questions are these:

1) How long does one typically allow it to dry before buffing off? Is it best to allow it to dry to a haze, or is it best to remove it wet? Anything special I need to know about applying it?

2) Can it be safely applied to my cladding and trim? Will it stain the trim?

Thanks, folks.

I just ordered a can of Finish Kare 1000p and will be using it to detail my F250 for a Northwest Wyoming winter. No, I haven't used it before but a search of this forum tells me to apply it really thin and let it haze. How long? That depends on air temperature, humidity and the thickness of application - that applies to any wax/sealent. You need to let it haze.

I plan to wait 12 hours after wipe off and apply a second coat to get complete coverage.

What possible difference can the color of the paint under your clearcoat make regarding your particular questions?

Apply very thin, I like to use a 4" flat black lc pad and polishing pal. Fits perfect in the tin, applies easily, just put on very thin. Wait 30 to 45 minutes until it passes the "swipe" test and buff off, apply 2nd coat 1 hr later, I apply 2 coats just make sure I have even coverage of the product. Use it on chrome and wheels as well.

Thanks, mates, for the replies so far. My second question remains unanswered:

2) Can it be safely applied to my cladding and trim? Will it stain the trim?

I have never touched or used on trim ... I do prefer to allow it sometime to haze.

Does your neighbor park his car outside?

It will stain trim. Be careful with it. I find it very finicky to use, but the results are great. Yes, be VERY thin with it. And two coats will give you best durability.

I love the stuff, but I have such a time with it that I'm using something else this winter. I'm sure it's just me, I guess I just can't get it thin enough. But I find it a bear to remove after hazing.

I have just begun to use 1000p and in my first tests, it has applied easily and buffed off pretty easily with a cotton towel even though the coat I applied was not very thin. I have to use microfiber with other products I have used.

I will be conducting a test of my own but it won't be on my ride because it's stored in a garage. I have a bird house in the backyard and it's exposed to the elements 24/7. The birds will help me test its durability as one critical test of a sealant is its ability to protect against droppings. This should be quite a test for 1000p.
