Do you use a microfiber towel to apply that or just a regular rag? Do you need a lot or just a little bit? What is your technique?

I always recommend using clean microfiber as often as you can... as Mike always preaches, working clean makes a huge difference!
After the compounding/polishing stage, an IPA wipedown is a great way to remove any faint residual polish product that is remaining on the surface, however if you only used 1 towel, you are better off completely washing the car with a citrus based cleaner or dawn to break through all of the residue remaining on the car.
No harm done, just added a little bit of work for yourself!

Mix isopropyl alcohol with water in a clean spray bottle 1:4 (20%) should be good maybe 30%.
Spray on as you were using a Quick Detailer and wipe off with a quality, clean microfiber towel.
NEVER use a rag on painted surfaces!

I'm trying to figure out when it would be good to use a shop rag. All I can think of is cleaning your wrenches after changing the brakes on your car.

Compound, polish, IPA them take it to the sun, inspect the results. Then if your happy then take your car back in. (Make sure the panels are not hot) Then sealant > wax.

Jonjoy, since you hand waxed,by hand being the key here, with gold class, you lost likely out it on a little too thick. If you don't let gold class set up long enough you will get that "smeary" look. Just spray it with water in a spray bottle. Just water or a QD an wiper her off. You'll be good to go. I know exactly what you're working with cause nice dealt with it myself.

This was my first thought! I tried the QD on a panel last night and it might of helped a little but it was hard to see the results because the sun was setting! I'm going to check it out again at work today!

My first thought was some left over Carnauba wax across the finish but wasn't sure! I asked my question on AutoGeek and everyone was so helpful! Thanks for the replies! The conclusion was quick detailer and the smears went away! Just needed to do a final wipe down as I have learned now! Thanks again everyone!!!

I've had that issue a lot when using Meg's GC Liquid. It just takes forever to set up.
