first car took 6 hours is that too long?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum.
I hope you could give me some advice i just did my first car and it took me 6 hours an Acura MDX,

I did the exterior -wash,clay,tar removal, bug removal, lite polishing, glazing and waxing.

interior- vacuum, wash mats, clean and condition leather seating three rows, used tornador to clean all dash, doors and all trim and windows

also cleaned the engine and engine compartment

6 hours is that normal timing or should have i done it faster?
 
6 hours is normal depending on how bad it is. I spent about 5 on a mercedes station wagon and about 5 on a ford escape
 
Sounds about right. It would really depend on how much tar and bugs were removed as well as how hard it was to get off. Also did you clay entire vehicle or just in spots? But 6 hours is a good time. I would not worry about how long it takes wprry more about the quality of work in the end
 
Thats pretty normal if it is a non-destroyed vehicle. I usually spend 4-6 on vehicles that size, unless they are trashed.
 
I agree with detailgod, for me its about the quality of the work. If your doing a detail alone it can take time and plus depending on what steps you need to do along with how bad the vehicles condition was.

yes i did clay the whole vehicle but i feel i could have done better on the interior.

had trouble with the seams in the leather, i used the tornador with a brush and still couldn't get everything out from the deep seams,

any ideas ?
 
i should add i head help with the tar and bugs and vacuuming

Cause you were not satisfied with the interior is why i said dont worry about how long it takes. When i quote times i over quote so i do not rush and make sure when i am done i am not second guessing myself wondering if i could have done something better.

As for the dirt in the seams try some Megs APC+ or Optimums Power Clean and a soft bristle small brush

Usually start at $250. Depends on size of vehicle and how trashed it is. But i have gotten as much as $700. That was on a blue suburban with alot of road tar and road paint on it with a trashed interior. I had help from my cousin and it still took almost 20 hours.. i had vehicle from friday to sunday.

That's pretty fast for a beginner .. took me 10 hours on my first detail (exterior only).

I would have taken at least 8 hours personally. But everyone has those details that they pay attention to a lot. Mine being the leather and door jambs. I would say 6 hours is good.
 
I have been lucky in the past, recived a mercedes station wagon with road tar and rims coverd in all brake dust. At that time, I had no daytona wheel brush, I just soaked the rims in eagle one, that took me a long time (about 1 hr) I then had a somewhat trashed interior (about 2 hrs) plus a wax and wash it ended up being about 5.5 hrs

wow thanks, that is my starting price($250) but the MDX i did was in very good condition but wasn't detailed in about 3 years did i go over board?

where in Illinois are you from?

i did have help
my wife helped me she did the tar, bugs and vacuuming

thanks for help bill i have looked into that brush looks like a most
 
in the photo i posted can you tell what i have done yet (this photo was taken before the job was done?)
