first chip on hood

Hi all
new to the forum.
recently got a 2015 GTI
Also recently got my first chip
here is a zoomed in picture Imgur
I am a true beginner and not willing to try wet sanding, etc on a brand new car....so
my questions:
between VW OEM paint pen or Dr color chip.
Which would be better for me?
I would guess i'd do the OEM with a toothpick..
seeing as it looks white, i guess its not down to bare metal- so i guess i shouldn't worry about rust?
and finally cause its so small..i wonder if I'm better off leaving it alone rather than trying to touch it up?

It's just the first of many, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I remember when I got my fist one on my GC. If it really others you I'd go with the DR. C. Mike has a great how to posted here too.

Apply XPEL Ultimate PPF to the
front clip and whole hood.

i know a lot of people recommended the Color Chip setup but this is what i'd do

i'd use one of the smaller lash extension micro brushes, the non-shedding "lint free" ones. you can get 100 of them for like $5 from certain places online. there are several sizes so be careful which you get. i like these WAY better than toothpicks. and they beat buying 40 EZ dabbers from a body shop supply place for $14

another crucial tool is a 18/0 modeling brush but for your chip i'd go with the smallest micro brush. the smallest ones i have are purple handles, the next size up have yellow handles but i hear the colors are not good guides since the asians who make these use whatever.

if the OE touch up is the type that doesn't need clear, make sure it's thin enough, saturate the micro brush and let the paint flow into the chip. you might need to do a couple of applications to build it up to the level of the surrounding paint. keep in mind, when the solvents evaporate from the paint, it will flatten out so while it might look filled right after an application, it probably isn't.

i use base from paintscratch and mix drop for drop with their clear coat. so, it's almost like single stage.

After it's repaired, go to your dealer and ask about 3M Clearbra or protection film. It helps in many ways, rock chips and bug strikes. As bugs hit the front of your car, they have enzymes which cause their body to decay. Those enzymes will etch into your bumper cover and hood if not removed quickly.

3M is clearcoated, can be polished, compounded, waxed and from 1ft away you'll never see it.
 
i was worried a little about Dr color chip not matching the OEM color.....also a little bit about the solvent you use after to get rid of excess paint. does that not do anything to the other paint around it?
 
so the OEM paint stick came today. Dr color chip is still a few days away...should i wait ?

with the chip seemingly only down to primer (white) should i not be worrying about rust? the DCC kit i order should be here in a few days. thats why i was thinking about using the OEM stuff. also for the DCC kit, does it come with a cleaner or should i be using something like rubbing alcohol in the chip first?
