First Correction Attempt - Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System

Sorry I never got a chance to post any pictures of my first go it, last summer. Spring is finally in the air here in Canada and the weather is getting nicer so I'm thinking about finally getting the car back to great shape after the winder.

Looking back at the results of the D300, they were good but not great. There are still some spots on the car where I'm seeing some fine lines when the sun catches it just right. Would love to catch is on some pictures, but I can't seem to do it.

I'm thinking I need something a little more aggressive, and would love to get some suggestions.

What if I went with Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound on a Meguiars Soft Buff W7006 Foam Cutting Pad 6.5"? What could I follow this with?

I'm looking for a pad that would fit my 5 Inch Backing Plate - W67DA that came with the Meguiars DMCKIT5 DA Microfiber Correction System I have.

Maybe what you are seeing are RDS, which maybe more difficult to remove. You can still use d300, just use slower hand speed and ample amount of pressure (to maintain rotation) when you pass over the defect. If this does not do the trick, you can use three pee sized drops of M105 in your d300 primed MF pad. and go over the defect again.

Thank you, I'll order some M105 and give that a shot.

:iagree:.... sometimes it seems like everything is perfect when working in shade, or shop lights, or even hand held 'swirl finders'. Nothing tells the truth like good old sunshine. May be RIDS = Random Isolated Deeper Scratches, or may be the last of the swirls, (along with a few RIDS). :dunno:

About the D300... it's pretty darned good at finishing down to a uniform, even surface. I think it does tend to fill though where 101 / 105 doesn't. Everything I've used it on so far it has that same 'look' to it. Its not a bad look, just a more glazed look, (which is a good thing). ;)

OTOH, I agree with using a bit of 105 to ramp up the cut a bit. Remember though that the MF pads are at the top of the chart as far as 'pad' cut goes. By itself 105 is notorious to work with so adding a few drops of it to an already primed pad (primed with something else) really helps it work better. I've used it with UC for instance and had good results.

Of course the other side is just use 101 and experiment with pad choice there. ;)

Hi, I'm the OP of this thread. It's got warm enough here in PA I'm ready to give her it's Spring detail.
Car is a black 96 SVT Cobra. Looking over the car it's definitely has some swirl and rids that need detailed out. Using the Maguiars MF DA Kit, how concerned do I need to be about removing too much CC? Last year the Maguiars rep checked it with his meter and said it had between 70-80% of the original cc left on the areas he sampled. Still being new to this, I'm a bit nervous and over cautious. Thanks, Dave
