First go - ceramic coating, experienced detailer

I will certainly provide some feedback, but bare in mind this is my 1st ceramic coating ever (after using the 845 extensively for over 10yrs).

I believe the biggest challenge is to recognize the right moment for wipe-off, anyone who can elaborate on that, especially for this product - Gyeon Mohs Evo !?

Review - Gyeon Syncro Evo

This is very informative with many useful advises (I was about to order CanCoat but looks like is not recommended for maintaing Mohs :xyxthumbs:).

What actually you use to maintain Mohs ?

How many towels in total did you use in this video for the 1st coat (as I plan on 1 coat only) ?

Is the applicator for 1 use only (washable ?), as I have 50ml of Evo, and plan to do our Lancer next week or so ?

I was about to order Gyeon Prep, I hope it's OK product for the final cleaning, before applying the Mohs Evo.

Uh, so many questions :wowwow:

I can't recall how many towels I used at the time. I used the coating over a year ago. Have a few on hand but 2-3 should be fine.

The applicator is not washable but it has two sides. It is a coating saver type applicator. Note which side you used so you don't reuse it.

You will need a panel prep product. Gyeon Prep will work just fine.

As far as maintenance there is a booklet included with the kit. Take a look at it as it covers which products to use.

You can top it with CanCoat at the time or as a yearly maintenance topper.

Adding some more to Guz's excellent information -

You can "maintain" Mohs with a variety of products depending on what you prefer doing -

- Can Coat can be used, but I think if you are using such a high-quality coating in the form of Mohs, I don't think I would bother.

- Using a "ceramic" drying aid after each wash will keep the coating in great condition. Staying with Gyeon, that would be their Q2M Ceramic Quick Detailer. NV Boost v2 or even Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Detailer would also be great options.

- You could also apply Gyeon Wet Coat every 3 or 4 months. This provides a decent top-up with minimal effort.

- You could also add a layer of Gyeon Cure or Carpro Reload 2.0 every 6 months.

You wouldn't need to do all of those. If you are using an appropriate drying aid, then that should be sufficient.

The applicator Gyeon includes with Mohs is a smaller version of their Q2M Coating Applicator. I threw mine in the bin after use, so I would be ordering some additional applicators, I like the TRC Pearl Applicator.

For towels, you would have at least 4, which would give you two sets of leveling and final wipe towels. I swap them half way for thoroughness. Towel choice needs to be a careful compromise between quality, low pile and cost. I throw coating towels into the rag pile after use to be ultra safe, as such you don't want to be spending $10 for each towel. But then, you don't want a towel to be so cheap that it undoes the work you put into the paint. I use TRC Edgeless 300's, but TRC Edgeless 245 are another balanced option. Otherwise, look at TRC Edgeless Pearl.

Ask as many questions as you like, the feedback I got from this forum is what gave me the confidence to tackle coatings.

I agree on possibly not using cancoat on top of mohs. Simply because mohs is a slick coating, and cancoat is not. But if one is just looking to further add protection/longevity every year, then id think of doing it. Bring some slickness to the surface by using a drying aide and or topper.

Hows ceramic detailer? Ive often wondered if it is cure but cut with water.

Ive only used cure, and i have a problem with it always wanting to streak, no matter how much or little i use. I even tried cutting it 1:1 with water, and while it helped...on black it was still possible. UNLESS i used it was a dring aide while the surface was still wet.

I also would say to use cure more often than 6 months as its only stated to last 6 weeks.

I intially struggled with Gyeon Ceramic Detailer, but it's best used sparingly and on a dampish towel to begin with. I really like the gloss and slickness.

I have used Cure a couple of times now as a protective element to a freshly applied coating and didn't have any issues. So perhaps climatic conditions or aged towels?

Don't sleep on UK. Still one of the best coatings on the market.

Agree. I've only had great success with it on many cars over many years.

I only apply one coat of CQUK and have seen it hold up just fine up to three years on cars that are park outside 24/7 and infrequently washed. It might take a couple washes to get them back to top water behavior, but you can see it's still there. On an modestly well maintained (or better) vehicle, it will easly look good and hold up for 3+ years from my experience.

I've struggled with both. Based on what I'm seeing with Ceramic Detailer right now, I'm starting to wonder if it's just Cure diluted 1:1 with water. I used Cure a few years ago and diluting it made it far more user friendly. That diluted product behaves and looked/felt just like Ceramic Detailer does today. No evidence to back it up, just my own personal conspiracy theory.

I'm still really enjoying both Pure Evo and Mohs EVO on our vehicles right now, but if I still bother with a topper after my Ceramic Detailer bottle is used up I may try out NV Nova Jet.

Who knows, ive tried with new towels as well. 3d bead it up will streak on black paint as well for me, only really notice it on the hood. Even though its out of direct sun light maybe the panel is to warm? Helll maybe its me...i dont know.

Ill try your damp towel technique with cure next time.

Thank you all for your input guys, I've got all the stuff now, a bit more correction perfection and I'll do my 1st ceramic coating.

Lots of knowledge and experience in your replies, much appreciated.

I can see that Mohs applicator doesn't look even on both sides - material vise. I take it both sides are fine, maybe I can use the other side when I doo my next car in a week time or so ?

Hey DFB - what do you mean by 'appropriate drying aid' ..!?

Cheers

Look into Armour Detail Supply Amplify. Stuff is slick and nice to work with.

I mean that in the sense of using a "ceramic" or Si02 type product so that you are topping/maintaining the coating at each wash. This would negate the need to do the 6 or 12 month maintenance topper like Cure/Reload/Jet ect.

You could of course use a quick detailer, say P&S Paint Gloss, but that won't be adding anything to "maintain" the coating. The only thing I would avoid would be a spray wax.

The side you want to use is the "fuzzy" side that looks like a MF towel. I'm not sure the smooth side would work well as an applicator.

Thanks! I'm always interested in finding/trying brands I've never heard of before. Slickness really isn't all that important to me, but how is the gloss and water behavior?

Thanks,
I take it Gyeon Q2M Ceramic Detailer (that I bought today) can be used for maintaining the coating at each wash!?

I would be doing the same.

Cquartz UK 3.0 has been around for a while now, I wonder if Carpro will have an update coming soon.

I feel like they have to with the emergence of Gyeon’s EVO line and the recent updates to G-Technic as well. They came out with that professional DQuartz but I remember Pan the Organizer mentioned they’re working on a consumer version. Guess we’ll see!

Just watched your video on a couple of thier products. Might have to try out this and spray sealant for myself. Thanks

I was expecting a revision shortly after their other coating went from TiO2 to SIC, but there hasn't been anything since. From what I remember, CQUK 2.0 wasn't on the market from more than a couple years before 3.0 hit. However, 3.0 has been around for a really long time at this point.

2017 to be exact. They’re due.

Getting ready to do my 1st ceramic coating ever over the week-end.

Photos to follow.

Stay tuned !
