First machine mini correction! VW 20TH AE

for those who are too lazy to read x-posts here are some new ones!

that's the damage I was looking at across the entire car.

This was my first time ever even touching a machine or using any type of professional detail product on a vehicle but thanks to t3h interwbZ, AG and probably most importantly JUNKMAN! I was able to get the balls to do this myself.

Orange, white and red pads
M205
Collinite 845
Sonax FE
Aerospace 303
Wolfgang leather care
Meg's shampoo plus
Meg's endurance tire gel
Meg's claybar
S-load of MF's


The goal was not to completely correct the paint, it's a daily..female owned so we all know what that means. My goal was to get the paint back to it's REAL color, there was sooo many swirls and halos you could barely see the flake. The color almost looked grey at times. She purchased the car like, not really sure what the dealer was thinking but its NJ car so... :bolt:

On to the cleaning!

Did a quick job of the engine bay

dash with 303

Interior done!

On to the main focus..EXTERIOR! Very impressed with the Sonax full effect, even with bad well pressure the wheel came clean with ease

After wash, I LOVE shampoo plus. Great smell and suds for days.

Deep into the night, clayed and prepping for machine work the next morning (note the horrible paint mismatch on the front bumper! This pic makes me shudder)

Next morning...test spot, not too shabby.

Same area as pic #6 after A LOT of passes. This was one of the super hazed over sections. I suppose M105 would have taken the rest out but I was running out of weekend.

After that I was super pressed for time so photo snapping ceased until I was finished.


FINISHED!!!

Conclusion
I'M HOOKED! Professional products and techniques are amazing. I can't wait to do the car over next year and get it looking even better.I'm pretty proud of myself but at the same time I don't understand how people do it so wrong! Let me know what you think!

When I saw how many passes it took to get the halos down to an acceptable level I ALMOST ran to the store to get some UC. This took me 2 days (I also had softball games and slacked a bit)

Very nice job with 205 by itself!! what a difference.

Nice turn around! (That's the good news)...

The bad new? You're hooked... you will never look at a car's paint the same way ever again, and you will see swirls and scratches and dirt, and streaks on glass, and brake dust on wheels... and... (you get the idea)... on a DD you will need to satisfy yourself with 80-90% correction or go insane! The 845 was a great call.. you may want to step up to true sealant at some point...

I really enjoy seeing a detail like this from start to finish especially by someone relatively new to detailing. There's an enormous amount of personal satisfaction once a detail is complete and the results are as impressive as this...

You would have had a much easier time had you started with UC, and 205 cleans up the damage that UC leaves behind very effectively. As a matter of fact, 205 even cleans up the damage quite nicely that 3M's #1 leaves behind (and that stuff is brutal). Next time, start with UC and follow it with 205 and check out how much easier your paint correction process goes.

Junkman- I had planned on UC or 105 but because of the damage on some panels it was advised that I stick with 205 in case the clear was too thin already. After I saw how many passes it took to get good I ALMOST ran out to the store to pick up UC...oh well maybe next time!
