i see manatees all the time in my river, used to swim with them a lot....they like to be petted

but anyways it just came on tv and the heading was "stingray attack" but its just such a weird freakish thing

Dang!! I wish I could do that!! I'd love to swim with manatees and dolphins. :) But what about that law? Many many moons ago when I was diving the Springs, they told we had to stay like 50 feet away from them. They said, "if you can see them, then you're too close" The fine is pretty stiff for getting to near them.

im not afraid of getting arrested for it:p
they are very fast swimmers and if you spook them theyre gone but if you come up slow and basically pet them they love it. we see them all the time, babies too! its sad though cause almost every manatee on my river has big gashes on its back from boat props:(

I know!! It's so sad!!! There's one in the Miami Seaquarium that has it's fin cut completely off from a boat propeller! It almost died, but the good folks at the Seaquarium rescued it. How I envy you! I would love to swim with them some day. :)
