Been using a rotary (wool pad) since the mid 70's mostly for paint/body. I was surprised how easy the transition was to the foam pads. After I got the pressure against the pad right on certain curves, it quit pulling the buffer around out of my intended line. Those foam pads are grippy little suckers :)

My truck had about a years worth of minor washing swirls, nothing very deep.

Dewalt 849X

1. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (already on the shelf) - CCS White Pad

2. M205 (already on the shelf) - CCS Black Pad

3. ------ (yet to be applied)

I have some Klasse AOI and some P21S... Thinking about maybe using something different this time.

Any suggestions?

BTW The 205 did a great job of removing the few UC swirls.

Great work! Truck looks beautiful!! How do you like the Dewalt 849x?

I use a 849x as well and love it. What size were your pads? Reason I ask is it for me thin 5.5" CCS pads are really grabby, but the thicker 6.5" pads are much easier to control. I've tried the HT, Flat, CCS and MF pads.

I've recently switched to 5.5" hex logic pads w/ a 5" Flex backing plate and love the combo. They are only slightly (1/4"?) thicker than 5.5" CCS pads, but for me they are so much easier to work with. I also use the 4" hex logic self centering pads with a 3" Flex backing plate for tight spots. I hope AG will carry them soon although there are some nay sayers that dislike the hex logics. I've never used anything bigger than 6.5" except for wool.

Your truck looks amazing! The drop is perfect... :dblthumb2:

Looks great!

I remember calling on shops in the 1980's showing guys foam pads that had never seen them before even though they've been around since 1965. Here's an article I wrote about it a few years ago...

The 1965 Wooless Wonder - First Foam Buffing Pad

In 1965 Meguiar's introduced the first foam buffing pad for use in place of a wool cutting or wool finishing pad; this enabled a person to create a more swirl-free finish by getting away from the individual fibers that make up a wool or fiber type buffing pad.

While it's no longer in any condition to buff out a car the picture kind of relays the idea of a long time, as in the Wooless Wonder was introduced a long time ago and since then we've continued to bring out new and innovative buffing pads for professionals, detailers and enthusiasts.

For perspective, Gilligan's Island debuted in 1965 in Black & White and in 1965, Ford introduced the Mustang. (technically in 1964 1/2)

The Klasse AIO is a cleaner/wax, a cleaner/sealant if you want to be specific. Normally after doing a dedicated compounding and polishing process, to apply a cleaner/wax would be working backwards but the Klasse actually works pretty well and leaves a nice clear finish.

The P21S is a finishing wax, that is it contains no cleaners and would be the more correct product to use for this type of process.

Sometime in the future pick up a bottle of Menzerna SF 4500 and jewel the paint after the M205 to really squeeze all the gloss, clarity and shine out of the paint.

Thanks Mike

I didn't know the foam pads have been around that long... heck I was in the third grade in 1965 :). I have some HD Advanced Polish on the way. If I don't like the results I'm definitely going to buy the PO85.

hey Mike I waxed my leg :D

I'm a right AK amputee also (32 years), I was fitted with the c-leg (knee) last spring and it really changed my life! The computerized knee knows when to add resistance or free swing. It stays in stance mode until you have 70% of your weight roll over on the toe. Then the computers sensor unlocks the knee for free swing. I haven't fallen since and I can carry heavier loads with more confidence. The battery charges overnight like a cell phone. The socket art is just a KISS t-shirt my guys cut and epoxied over. Looks like air-brush work on a motor cycle fuel tank :D

Very nice job on the truck!

Very, very nice man cave!!!

Cool info on the leg...my first concert was a KISS concert in Detroit in 1976!

Very cool. I think your garage is an insperation to us all to build that perfect man cave. It sure is for me. I am speechless.

I am also a full time painter and shoot with a SATA Jet 4000 B HVLP system.
