First time machine polishing - Product recommendations?

What I been told from Griots about 3” pads on the g9 was that the longer throw and counter weight would make it vibrate to much.

I think that sounds right but also they would sell less g8’s

That is true for any random orbital machine to some extent. Whether it vibrates "too much" is subjective.

If you study the basic design and function, the counterweight is there to offset the weight of the backing plate and pad. So anytime you change the size, or more specifically the weight, of the backing plate you are altering the balance characteristics of the machine.

Whether or not that is detrimental and to what extent is certainly debatable but the machine's balance will be affected nonetheless.

I ended up buying these after reading/watching a number of reviews. I also bought the CarPro CQuartz Lite coating to use as my LSP based on a review you posted a while back - the ease of application sold me.:props:

Thanks again for all the helpful advice. I probably won't have time to do anything for another week or so, but I'll be sure to let you guys know how it turns out.

I have cutmax its a treat to work with frankly - no dust, easy wipe off and nice bottle. Since i don't use heavy compounds much i have no reason to try anything else, works nice on glass too i found to just clean them up. Never tried EX 04-06, yet. lol

Nice choice in products. You will enjoy the coatings performance. Did you also purchase a panel prep such as Eraser?

Feel free to message me if you need help during the application. It can be a little tacky during wipe off and some don't like that.

Mike, just my thoughts............. But are the "tacky wipe-off" coatings generally the longer lasting ones?

**Edit** Better performing ones?

No I don't believe so. Just a by product of whatever is used in the coating formula.

I was planning to use an IPA solution as a paint prep, but would consider buying Eraser if there's a meaningful benefit. I know I've heard Eraser has more lubricity (is that a real word?) than IPA solutions which makes it a little easier to wipe off and smells better, but are there other benefits of Eraser/downsides of IPA?

Edit: I'm aware of the concerns that certain IPA concentrations could soften or wrinkle clearcoat, so I was planning to shoot for a 10% IPA solution based on Mike Phillips's recommendations.

I would personally just stick with eraser to keep it simple. Especially if your going to coat your car. If you bought all the gear just as well to get a bottle of eraser. One bottle is more then enough for 1 car. I actually enjoy gyeon prep more then eraser.
