Fixed a badly detailed Jeep....a lesson in getting what you pay for

This forum member reached out to me after having an amateur detailer try to correct the paint on his Jeep. Not only was the correction performed badly, but numerous areas were not done at all. Detailing done cheap has its consequences.

Most of the exposed screws had heavily built up compound and/or wax residue. The textured satin top had been waxed despite the owner's request that it not be. This resulted in pretty bad staining, a good amount of which would not come out. The areas that had been corrected were heavily covered in DA micromarring as the previous detailer could not handle the hard clear on the Jeep. Other areas were not done at all. It was originally scheduled for a one step correction but once I saw its condition I knew it would not restore the finish enough. So I brought out Ryan to help me restore it as best as possible. We logged in a significant amount of time to fix this Jeep.

Great job! How did you get off the white residue from the trim?
 
Nice turn around :dblthumb2: I can't comprehend who thought it was a good idea to put wax on a plastic textured roof! Interested to know what you did to solve the problem.
 
Those hardtops suck, my girlfriend has one and there's not much you can do to protect it. Did you try mineral spirits to remove the wax? I figured that would work.
I'm also curious to which products were used.
 
Looks great!!!

1. Why tape around the hard top and not just remove it? They come off in 10 minutes.

2. How did you compound and polish the tight areas like the rear quarter panel? Between the fender flare, gas cap, etc, there is just not a lot of room. I have Jeep Wrangler and find there is so much I cannot use a DA on becuase of all the tight areas.
 
HD line I see. I too use a lot of the times because not only does a phenomenal job but it finishes it down perfectly and almost no dust at all, long working time. HD poxy is an amazing mountain wax. Great work. I just got a new favorite compound and that's the new Wolfgang Über 3.0, new version. Freaking amazing compound and I suggest you to try it out, if you haven't yet. Much better and improved than the last version.
 
What did you do to remove the wax that was filling in all the spline head screws?

I had a trailer that had the same problem. I used a hot water pressure washer and it cleaned them right down to the bottom. Luckily the traier wasn't painted. The metal sheets were powder coated at the factory before assembly.
