Flat Pads or HT Pads 7/8 or 1.25?

7/8 all around for me. They are easier to control, and on a DA, they dual action movement isn't absorbed like it would be with the thicker pads.

The 1 1/4" work wayyy better on the 3401, IME, but I don't think you use the 3401?

You're right I don't so I won't give my opinion, but I have heard from several friends on here that they prefer the thinner pads on that machine as well. But that could just be their personal preference.

Yep, to each their own.

Ya know, I was thinking when the OP mentioned 1.25", he was talking about 6.5" pads, but don't the 5.5" HT pads come in 1.25" thick, too? He might be referring to those. FWIW, I think the 6.5" x 1.25" pads are wayyyy easier to control than the smaller 5.5" x 7/8" HT pads on the 3401.

Actually Mark I was refering to 5.5 pads but didn't make that clear in my OP. And yes they do come in 1.25 the flats are the ones that only come in 7/8.

If you're using a traditional DA, go with the 7/8" for sure!!!!!!

Go thin for the win for both rotary or DA. DA are more effective with thin pads.

I don't think I have ever come across a time in which I wished I had a thicker pad.

I use ONLY the 7/8 pads for both rotary and DA. Backing plate on a rotary does influence my choice tho on the rotary.

Question I have for anyone with experience using the 7/8" HT pad: about how long do these pads last with normal use compared to the thicker pad? I don't expect them to last as long, just from the thinner width, but are they cost effective?
