OK I got 4 3/8" backing plate for my flex. What size pads should I use to with it? Thanks

Yeah I was thinking 5 1/2 maybe a little too big

There is a balance factor here as well. Too large of a finishing pad on a small backing plate could be an issue. But if Carolinas Finest states no problem then it's probably worth trying out. If you have ever had a tire out of balance you know what I mean. You may feel it. Also as noted above please see that you have it centered properly.

if you use 5.5" pads you'll have a little safety margin as the backing plate is a little smaller than the 5" velcro on the pad...

Its the best bp on the Flex, I use it will all types of 5.5" pads.

Just to note....

There's not a lot of 5" pad options. Actually... I can't think of any.

There are a LOT of 5.5" pad options.

As long as you center the 5" velcro backing on the 4 3/8" backing plate the tool and pad will buff paint all day long.

:)

Yes just as Mike said, center the pad up and you will be on your way. Love my flex with the 5.5 pads.

Should I get the lake country Thin pads or the lake country flat pads to use with my flex? I already have a set of the lake country ccs 6 1/2" pads.

BTW I am going to be using it on 2015 black Tahoe that needs compound polish and wax.

Mike, aren't these the premiere 5" pads for the Flex? They're all I use because of this forum.

If you are going with the 4 3/8 backing plate the new Force pads are a no brainer.

I shaved my stock 5.5 down to 5 with a file, bolt, washers, nut and a drill. Poor mans lathe.

Yes.

They are also the pads I recommend in my FLEX how-to book.

The thing is they are made for a 4" diameter backing plate.

Here's the deal...

It's easy to eye-up and center a pad when the diameter of the back of the pad is LARGER than the backing plate BECAUSE you're eyes can see where the outer edge if the backing plate is aligning with the outer edge of the velcro.

So even if the diameter of the velcro backing is larger, you can still CENTER the pad.

When the backing plate is LARGER than the diameter of the back of the pad then you're eyes CANNOT see where the backing plate is in relationship to the back of the pad. You have to guess.

That's why I didn't include these pads when I wrote,

It was in the context of what's normal and easily attainable by humans.

For everyone reading this into the future, this is real easy to prove to yourself, just grab a pad that's smaller than the backing plate and try to align them.

That's the benefit of the Lake Country Backing Plate Adapter System. Lake Country did the work so you don't have to. Instead of trying to cut down a 4 3/8" backing plate to 4" just buy the backing plate already made and ready to bolt on.

It's on sale right now...

I don't know what it would cost to pay a machine shop to mess with a project like this but probably more than $29.99
