Flex 3401 problems

I am surprised a company such as Flex does not include a spare set of brushes in the box.

I Do think it would indeed be great if they did but I can see why they don’t. Check this thread out and do some math. The brushes do last.

Flex 3401 died :(

To the OP b4 mine died, the RPMs were varying as you are seeing. I also think these machines sitting and not being used is bad as internals can rust. Perhaps taking it apart and giving it a good spray/soaking with WD40 may help the issue and push any possible moisture/rust out.

Ok
Just replaced brushes with new ones. Old ones looked great. Still doing the same thing with the new brushes. I’d just like to try and troubleshoot so I can replace only the broken piece and not throw parts at it. Everything inside looks great from what I can see. Anyway to bypass the speed selector switch? Thanks

Might be a silly question, but since you say you bought it used, are you sure it is a genuine Flex tool and not a Chinese clone?

I'm sure there is a way to bypass the SS switch. Without looking at it in person, I couldn't tell you how though.

That said, I personally wouldn't do that for fear of damaging the tool.

Just wanted to update the thread, replaced speed controller and it’s now working like it should .

I never thought this would be happening with Flex!! :wowwow:

I've seen and held a Chinese knock-off. It's when I was working the 303 Booth at Meccum Auctions.

Come Meet Mike Phillips at the 303 Booth at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida! Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th

I took a picture of it and sent it to FLEX. Not sure what happened after that?
:dunno:

Interesting! I was in their Glendale, AZ booth and did not catch it...... I was busy signing up for a Kendall bucket and buying a vacuum attachment.

Hard to aggressively enforce patents and not go broke. Years ago I represented a line of foldup hand carts that was a division of a large corporation. They had a quality product and aggressively enforced their patent on copy after copy that "washed" ashore at cheaper and cheaper prices. One day the fax came...... litigation was killing them, the "mother ship" said enough.
The worst case I experienced was, a manufacturer I sold for, worked with a supplier for two years developing a new product only to have them sell it "out the backdoor" to our biggest competitor...... before we got it!!!

Kinda like when Callaway golf had a clone club hit the market the day before they launched it!
