My flex runs so hot that it melts the glue from the back of my pads. Idk what to do to fix that. Or what's causing it.

The heat affecting your backing plates is a result of pressure, time and the motor running at high speed. It's the nature of the beast as you can't remove any of these factors and still do the work you're doing.

I had a couple ask me the same question at SEMA...

:)

It's the factory backing plate and it melts any glue off of any pads I use. It's melted my yellow foam all the way to my wool pad. And since it's been getting so hot, none of my pads want to stick to the backing plate anymore. And this is a brand new factory replacement backing plate. But the thing is it's never melted anything until recent. It gets hot where if you touch it. It'll actually burn you. Instantly

Talked to Flex and they said without seeing the tool and more information it's really hard to say what the root cause could be.

There has to be a root cause to this issue as it's more the exception to the rule than the norm as we just don't see posts like yours on this forum or any forum.

Can provide more information? Maybe some pictures?

I know there was an issue with some early 3401's that the bevel gearset in the head wasn't lubed properly and it was causing them to be noisy and run hot...perhaps that's the problem with yours?

Having a flex 3401 myself I would say this is not normal at all . Somethings wrong !

yea, i figured that. i jus got my new flex in and buffed 3 cars today and it jus got warm and didnt melt any pads. my old flex is maybe a year and a half old. does anyone know the warranty on them. ive got 2 cyclo polishers and not have had one problem except for changing out the carbon bushings. i dont understand how i pay over 300 and have to buy a new one this fast
