I know this is an old thread, but...

DO NOT soak your felt ring in oil like shown in the video above, or as described in a previous post. That is way too much oil - all you need is a few drops.

Soaking the ring will saturate the ring and it will take forever to extract the excess oil, and just when you think you have it all out, the ring will bleed oil all over the backing plate, your pad, and the surface you're working on.

You'll pull the felt ring, try extracting the excess oil again, think it's totally dry, change to a clean pad, then the felt ring will bleed again... and again... and again... Not while the ring is out, no, while you're using the machine. The vibration of the machine forces the oil out.

It took me about a dozen tries before I finally got all the excess oil out. Guess what it looked like by the time I was done? Yep, about how it looks when you use these drops of oil as suggested.

Do yourself a favor, don't soak your felt ring!
