Flex 3401 ?

I changed the backing plate of my old 3401 and noticed the inside had grease in it. Then I jus got my new 3401 and looked inside and it was completely dry. I'm confused. Is it or is it not suppose to be Greased up???

None of the new Flex 3401's I've replaced or switched backing plates on have had grease where the backing plates attach as shown here in this thread,

While I went on a tour of the Flex Plant in Germany a few weeks ago I did see where the gear location of the Flex PE 14 had gear oil as show below,

Before installing the gear Heinrich adds a lubricating grease which is prevented from leaking out by seals...

How far did you take the Flex 3401 apart?

I only took off the backing plate as shown on your first pic. And that's where all the grease was. So that's not normal then? And I'm wondering if that's the reason why my flex runs so hot!!
