So ive been going back and forth between the flex and rupes 15 and decided on the flex. But i have some question about pad combinations, ive read everyones using the the 5 " hybrids with the backing plate system. But why 5 " ? Why not 5.5 or 6? I mean on regular DAs everyone's using 5.5. So the flex must have the power right?

I have the Flex 3401 with approx +100 hours of use. The Flex is a forced rotation DA and will not stop rotating as long as the trigger is pressed. The Flex 3401 has no power issues running 6.5" pads. I have not used the Rupes polishers yet but I'm happy with the Flex 3401.

Not sure why Lake Country went with the 5" Hybrid Pad rather than 5.5"

With the smaller hybrid pads it makes controlling the machine very easy. The hybrid pads are perfect with the flex.

When i pick up the flex I'm most likely gonna get the backing plate system to run 5 " pads but should I pick up 6.5" pads also? Or should I stay strictly with 5"? Thanks

Can you post a link (autogeek of course) to the hybrid pads. Would be much appreciated

Since they are on sale I would pick up a bundle of them. That way you have what you need on hand should your test spot verify if you need something more or less aggressive.

I've used the hybrids and ccs smart pads. They both work great. I find myself using more of the orange pad and white pad more than any others but they all get a little use due to the many variations in paint hardness. If you go with small pads definitely pick up a large red pad for spreading sealants and waxes. I usually stick a humongous red finishing pad on my rotary for sealants and waxes. I turn it down to 600 rpm and fly around the cars in nothing flat.

To prep my vehicles for Chicago's upcoming winter weather, I've had great success using the following:
Flex 3401 with:
LC orange CCS pad + M205 for light polishing.
LC white CCS pad + M21 sealant.
LC white CCS pad + Collonite 845 wax.
I use a PC + 3" pad + M105 or Blackfire for "spot" polishing the deeper scratches. Works well for me. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks for the replies guys, I ended up getting 2 of each hybrid in 5" and 3 6.5 ccs pads that came in the kit.
