I have a Flex 3401 DA and want to buy a backing plate so I can use smaller pads. Anyone using the changeable backing system by Lake County? Can you tell me if it is worth getting?

Thanks

I got the changeable system but have not used it but for a few minutes. It works but with standard pads your backing plate goes almost to the edge so no margin of safety.

What size do you want to use - 4-in plates?

I am contemplating getting 1/8-in removed to improve clearance.

Yeah, I may just get a 4 inch plate and pad and be done with it.

I've never quite understood the purpose of the 4" Backing plate. Taking the pad right to the edge seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I took a standard 3401 plate and cut it to 5" on a metal cutting lathe, perfect sixe for 5.5 pads. :dblthumb2:

I have the new LC system. I have only used the 6". It is perfect with Optimum MF and 6" LC Flats. I use a DA with 3" BP and pads for tight spots. The 4" Flex BP is even bigger than the LC as I understand from Corey. It wont take a 4" pad.

The Flex one is 4 3/8", the LC one is 4".
