The PE-14 thread size for backing plates is 5/8". Is 5/8" the same size as M14. I found an 80mm (3 1/4") extension bar with M14 threads. It comes from the U.K. and I just want to make sure their threads are the same size threads we use in the U.S.

5/8-11 is an inch/imperial thread, M14 is a metric thread, so no, they are not the same.

Thank you for the reply. I have searched and searched for an extension and the most I have found is 1". Why aren't there any 3" to 6" extensions available for rotaries? There seems to be a demand for them, not a huge one but they are there.

I put 3 1" extensions on my rotary to get longer extensions.

Well, I have searched and searched for a 3" extension for the new Flex Pe14-2 I got a couple of weeks ago and there ain't none. You mean no one needs or wants a 3" extension for their rotary that you had rather screw 3 1" hex extensions together to get your 3"? Mistakes do happen and if you have 3 hex's together, that will be like a can opener going after your car. A nice round one, there will be damage but nowhere near what the hex will make.
You're telling me that Mike Phillips and Autogeek are unable to get some quality round 3" extensions for us. They have no idea where to get them or have someone make them to sell. I just do not understand this at all.

You at least have to have some wrench flats on it, otherwise how will you get it off? If you haven't figured it out, it's cheaper to make it out of hex stock than machine flats on it after.

Why the hang up on 3" Rotary extensions?

One-piece 4" and 6" extensions are also
nice Rotary Polisher accessories for not
only enabling the getting into and reaching
those tight, out of the way areas...but are
also quite ergonomical.

M14? Plenty of them in the UK. Where are these 5/8" ones? Oh, I would love to have a set of different lengths.

I think the image with the 3 different length of extensions are M14. I saw them and a couple of extension kits when I was Googling for that type. I also checked the recommendations you mentioned and they all have the 5/8" hex or the type for orbitals. Thanks for replying, Bob.
Back to square one. I guess Mike Phillips doesn't look at these threads, I think he would know where to get some or has connections to get some made.

It's really not that difficult to assemble
some 5/8-11 all-thread/couplers---(that
can easily be purchased at most home
improvement/hardware stores)---to any
length/shape that will fulfill your needs.

•Try it; you may find out just how
enjoyable DIY projects can be.
•It's a Yuuuge money saver, to boot!:dblthumb2:
