flex question

Wet a 7.5" pad and press it onto a piece of paper and then measure the wet spot. I'll wait........:D
I know what you are saying. What I had in mind when saying what I said is that there must be some forces "tugging" on the unit as pad is being "spun" around, and bigger the pad bigger the forces will be (not just because of increased weight, but also because of increased distance from the center). How much increased they are and how much they matter I do not know but I felt they might matter so I felt one should warn they might matter as they might be putting load and at certain point that load might become too much. Unless, of course, increase in friction (of bigger pad against surface) compensates for increase of "tugging" forces. But if it does that would still mean unit is working harder than it should to get that pad moving? Isn't that why smaller pads end up easier on tools load wise?

i understand both your points. I am getting an old, red bp to test it out and will let you know.

chris,
are you using for the big pads or cutting it down?

My plan it to try it full size and if that's not to my satisfaction then I'll cut er down.:)

Same plan for me. Should hv mine Saturday.

 Nooooo, don't cut my babies down! If they are not working to your liking just return them to me, k?

Even if I'd have one done for you?:D
What for? "Final style" is already 5.5" and it takes much less work to convert "final style" to 5" than it would be to convert "red velcro" style to 5". To convert "final style" to 5" one needs to just remove soft interface, reglue velcro and trim it down.

For what pad size?
4 or 5 inch pads. i have a lot of them.
i am think 4 is a no go based on the head of the flex but maybe the 5's.
Smallest backing plate would not be smaller than size of shroud or otherwise tool would not be safe to use. Size of shroud is 4.25" so minimum advisable size of bp would be IMHO 4.5". Which means you would be using them with 5" to 5.5" pads. "Final style" bp is already 5.5" and can be easily converted into 5" bp. In other words it is my guess it is not very likely they will be doing that.

zoran,
have you trimmed down a final pad to work with a 5" pad? i do have a lot of 5" pads. noted on the shroud size. that is what i thought.

No, I have not because I already had 5" bp made by Flex themselves. BPs that PH was sending out as intermittent replacements while "final design" was rolling in were 5" exactly and seemed to be same thing as "final design" without that white foam padding.

Just for people to know is i still am using the red bp and have had no problems and i got mine the first week of september.I also was shipped the new bp and as of now have no use for it yet.

If you don't want it, I'll be very interested on it. If you could check how much be shipping it to Spain I'll be very pleased because here is very dificult to get it, I'm getting mad. :(
