Hi guys
i've done quite a bit of reading and searching but can't seem to find any thing.
is there any way i can order another Flex backing plate and cut it so i can use some 5.5" LC pads? Or does any one have a guide to 'editing' the pads. I know the Current backing plate for the 3401 is 5.5" but lets just say im not so keen to live with ZERO error.

I can't order any other DA off AG as In New Zealand we are 240v and i can't seem to find a G220v2 ANYWHERE. :(

Any way, any help be appreciated.

P.S - Shopping Cart Price to date,

$670 = $893 NZD. That's Dedication. :D

Jay,

I have a backing plate that was cut by the same guy that Flash gave you the link to. He did a great job, but I still prefer to use 6.5" pads. I have a 3.5" backing plate with my Griot's for 4" pads, so I don't need an in between backing plate anymore. I'll give you the "cut" backing plate for free, just pay shipping. Let me know if you want to do this.

over at detailingbliss, there is talk about getting some 5" backing plates made for the Flex. you'll have to go ever there and do a search...

Eric from Lake Country is supposed to have a 4" backing plate by spring time. No talk of a 5" backing plate.

I had an extra 5.5" backing plate, I had ordered a replacement for my original after the first one I had was getting worn out when my Flex locked up. I sent it back to have it repaired and when I got it back, it came with a new backing plate, so I had an extra. I saw the thread where someone here had trimmed theirs, so I trimmed the spare one I had down with an exacto knife, I've done this before with the Dynabrade backing plate. I used it two weekends ago with 5.5" LC pads and it worked nicely. It gives you a little room for error as the backing plate doesn't come out to the edge of the pad.

I took mine a step further. I saw what GEWB did so I did that but still wanted more clearance so I pulled out my dremel and used that to cut the plastic. It isnt perfectly circular but close enough. It gives me plenty of room.

I love it. If you can drop an extra 20 on a spare BP go ahead and circumsize one. I have yet to put on a 6.5 pad since.

You could try in NZ Polishing Machines - detaildepot.

They also carry the DAS-6 which is better machine than a G220.

If you don't have any luck there you could try over here in Australia (also 240v) at waxit.com.au

They have a new Concours 900 Polisher which is even more powerful than the DAS-6 with a larger 8mm orbit.

Even if you cut down the Flex what do you then do when you require 4 inch pads?

Chuck up the backing plate on a machinists lathe and plunge a sharp bit on the right location and wallah; perfectly round backing plate to your specification. :props:

The concours polisher does look tempting, but not a known brand to me, and havn't heard reviews, unlike the flex which has plenty.

regarding detaildepot, they only have the Das-6 and the g220. not what im after.
thanks all the same.

Regarding the 4" pads, the car i have i have no use for them. if worst comes to worse, just have to work it more with the 5.5" and be more careful :)

Have you delt with waxit before ?

OK then if you are sticking to your Flex. Just don't know, how you other Flex guys go about small areas without 3 or 4 inch pads!

Just for others that maybe following, I think the Concours is the same as a DAS-6 Pro which has also had heaps of reviews. The only thing I thought that was different was the 8mm throw. Also the price is the same as what I paid for a DAS-6 (not Pro) about 8 months again, plus they now include the sampler pack of Menzerna products. I'd reckon that is bloody good value.

The Concours is also being discussed on the UK forums, so it is not local to just Australia.
