Flex xc3401vrg bail handle loose screws won't go in all the way.

I picked up my flex 3401, and noticed the bail handle was loose, so I looked at the screws and the heads were sticking out like over an eight of an inch. So I tried to tighten they wouldn't budge, so I tried to loosen em and the same thing, the heads were getting pretty rough from all that trying, does anyone have a suggestion? Just got it l Iike 4 days ago. Dont really want to send it back
