Foam gun and washing question

so far for about a month with the Gilmour foam gun...
1. I always rinse no matter what state
2. foamgun w/ cg honeydew snow foam
3. let sit for a few mins
4. 2BM
5. rinse/dry w/ww towels
other than wanting to upgrade to a foam lance in future, this turns out great

Because, as I noted in my post, I believe that some the debris that is trapped by the foam could be getting rubbed against the paint by your mitt if you don't rinse it off the car first.

3. Rinse
4. Foam the panel im working on
5. 2bm that panel
6. Rinse panel (and any over spray)
7. Repeat for the rest of vehicle
8. Sheet

Please do the test again and use half the bumper after power wash rinse only and the other half after foaming followed by power rinse

Agreed.

The only conclusion that can be drawn is the exhaust leaves more soot on the bumper than the trunk.

That has been my method.

Very good write up. The method I have come to use is:

1. Foam with foam gun and Meguair's Deep Crystal Soap
2. Gently wipe the panels/foam with 4 clean Meguiar's wash mitts (O BM)
3. Spray Rinse
4. Sheet
5. Light Blow Dry
6. Final Dry/Wax with Ultima WW+ with Meguiar's WW towels

This method is fairly fast and leaves the car spotless as far as I can tell.

Sure thing. Might have to wait another 5 weeks though for the dust to accumulate again...

Here's the 2 perspectives I see:
1. Leave the foam on the car because it will add extra lubrication while washing.
2. Rinse the soap off first because then all the debris "encapsulated" by the soap will already be washed away, and you don't have a chance to rub it against the paint with your mitt.

You can actually do both. It only takes a couple of ounces to foam a car twice with my foam cannon or foam gun so foam, rinse, foam, then regularly wash. A couple ounces of soap should cost anywhere from 50 cents to $1 depending on brand.
