I'm still not sure in what situation I would choose either a Microfiber pad or a foam pad.
Is one better for specific things? Or it is just a question of preference?

I use foam whenever possible. Microfiber if defect removal is stubborn.

i use microfiber pads with cutting compound for heave defect removal.

i use foam pads for polishing (removing haze left by microfiber pads, 1 step polish, AIO....)

soft foam pad for applying paint sealant

I use meguiars MDX cutting pad whenever foam cutting pad + rubbing compound isnt enough or taking long time to cut and I need little more boost on cutting power.

Interesting,

So I know with a regular orange foam pad on a DA its fairly safe and you can get some some minor scratches etc. If I cant remove some marks/scratches with that should I try a microfiber pad OR use the next step up from an Orange pad?

Thanks

In the Lake Country lineup, I believe yellow is the next step in aggressiveness with their foam pads.

Theres more than one way to skin a cat here. There are so many great pad choices on the market today. Personally, I use MF pads for cutting, then finish with foam.

I would recommend having at least one MF cutting pad but I would use Foam whenever possible.
