When you are working on a car, what do you do as far as keeping it out of the sunlight?

I've gotten comfortable detailing my car, and have done all my families cars. Wash, clay, cleanse, polish, wax, the whole gamut. Every time I have had the advantage of using my fathers storage bay behind his warehouse, where I can wash the cars and do everything indoors.

I have the opportunity to detail a guys car, but was curious as to how some of you pros do it. Now I haven't talked to the guy and gotten anything nailed down yet, but what I would prefer is to just pick his car up and bring it to the shop. I don't know if that would even be feasible, as I don't know where he works or lives. So I figured I would ask those smarter than I as to what their procedure is:cheers:

If you don't have insurance you shouldn't drive it ... or detail it for profit for that matter. If you're gonna do it anyway, have him drop it off, that's not unreasonable when detailing, getting tires put on, or any service work.

"I have the opportunity to detail a guys car...Now I haven't talked to the guy and gotten anything nailed down yet". What makes you think you have the opportunity? Gotta agree with Integrity about insurance. You need liability insurance, and if you're going to drive it you need garage keepers insurance. To answer your original question, most mobile pros use a canopy.

I have the opportunity because he showed me his car, told me what he wanted done, and I said "Okay". As far as when I can do it, and how he is going to get me the car, that we haven't worked out yet.

What I was curious about was if you professionals carried a canopy with you, or had the customer leave their car, or if you picked it up. And when I say pick his car up, that is me assuming he works close by to my dads shop. Like 2 doors down....

How well do you know this guy. There are times when I drive the persons car, and there are times I do not. I detail cars professionally and do not have insurance to drive them. That being said, I only drive them if I know the person pretty well. Other than that, I ask them to drop it off or I do it at their house. I will only do a car at the person's house if the have a garage for me to work in once I am done washing
