For those without PTG's

If i dont have a PTG (paint thickness gauge) and do paint correction for customers (usually a compound followed by finishing polish), whats the safest most effective compound i could use that wont abrade too much clear coat? I mainly use Ultimate Compound now and would like something with a little more cut. I was looking at the m105/205 combo but thought that m105 was far too aggressive for someone without a PTG. FWIW I use LC CCS Orange pads for compounding.

Are you using a DA or a rotary? Too many factors come into play here to really answer this. If you're using a 105/205, I don't think that you will burn through anything except maybe edges with a DA. That's why we tape the edges.

What edges are you supposed to tape. I thought just trim was taped on a correction?

The raised contour lines of the car have the thinnest paint due to the thin surface area. Even a DA can remove paint from raised lines. I hope that makes sense.

It's 95% safe, but you still have that unknown 5%. I have had a PTG save me a few times. :buffing:

With a DA polisher you will be more safe compared to using a rotary.
