For you cold weather guys Last

I’ve seen on ig some mobile guys in NC and NY use steam in the winter. I’m originally from MD, did the whole snow thing for 17 years. Moved to FL in 2004 my blood has thinned significantly and now it’s hoodie weather at 50 degrees. Just was wondering how the real up north guys without a shop do during the winter. Must be terrible with all that dirty slush and salt.

You'd be amazed how a happy customer and a nice tip will warm you up

Wool socks, thermal medium layer, wool vest, double layer jacket, hat. Keep moving and you warm up quite well. NC rarely goes too cold, say below freezing. If the water freezes then that changes things. I use nitrile + neoprene gloves, you'l feel cold but it won't be directly on skin contact.

Quick hot water power wash in the driveway open the garage door to a nice heated garage and finish up with a water less wash. And don't forget to toss a tonne of calcium chloride onto The driveway or you'll be skating down.

I washed my SUV today and it was about 40 degrees. I wore joggers, some old moccasin shoes and a hoody. I used cold water and wore thin latex gloves. After a few min I felt like my finger tips were starting to freeze. So I put on my under armour cold gear gloves on, put the latex gloves over them to keep them dry, and went back to work. It was still a tiny bit cold but definitely 10 times better than no gloves or just latex gloves.

For the record, as long as its above 32 degrees I will wash my car. I’ll be using this technique going forward.

The effect now known as the Mpemba effect was first noted in the 4th century BC by Aristotle, and many scientists have noted the same phenomenon in the centuries since Aristotle’s time. It was dubbed the Mpemba effect in the 1960s when schoolboy Erasto Mpemba from Tanzania claimed in his science class that ice cream would freeze faster if it was heated first before being put in the freezer. The laughter ended only when a school inspector tried the experiment himself and vindicated him.

Who knew. Just imagine what we could do if mankind had perfect brains.

To make washing a bit easier in the cold I just purchased a boar's hair brush with today's sale. That should help keep my hands out of the water a bit more! Once the weather heats back up I'll go back to washing with a mitt.

Long ago when I was young and thought I was indestructible, I washed my car and the water froze on it before I could dry it. Not any more.

RiverCityAutoSpa,
Look into "Scuba Diving Gloves" divers use them in real cold water and there hands stay warm. Also the fit real tight on the hands.

I bought a boars hair brush w the long handle recently. I love it and use it to wash the roof of my SUV and minivan. But that’s it. I wouldn’t use it on the hood- trunk or vertical panels. Too scared it might scratch the paint.

Fill buckets with hot water, not warm- I hustle and get the wheels and car done before the hot water can freeze. Sweatshirt, winter hat and athletic pants. If its really cold I use nitrile gloves and then the yellow kitchen cleaning gloves with rubber bands at the top. And I'm in Mass, work and live on the coast of Cape Ann... we have had 15-30mph winds all week and its been about 30-40 degrees.

I wouldnt even think about the pressure washer with how bad the winds have been lately. Props to you

I'm pretty lucky because we have underground parking here at our apartment. I can head down there and do a RW even when it's about 20 outside but that's the lowest I can go because even then it's pretty cool down there but NOT freezing!

So your in Chicago?

50? In NJ 50 Degrees means we're running out our door when the alarm clock rings 'detailing away' with a smile. In all seriousness, I was our cars in any temp that allows it just so long there is no contact freezing. I've done cars when air temp was 20 with warm water and a power washer. Yes hands get cold but you get over it pretty quickly. If your hands are a concern, try industrial blue or yellow insulated rubber gloves - use a rubber band to hold the tops closed around your forearm and you'll be fine.
