Forum Frustration

i'd have to say it's nice to have a site to go to so i can learn "how to" do detailing. granted it's not the same as having someone show me how to do it but it's close. i lived in a trailer before we got a house so the vehicles sat outside 24/7. i'd still be doing things wrong if not for this site. i have yet to detail the truck all in one day because i keep the wifes ss sparkling clean. sometimes we make choices. read what you can use and leave the rest.

Paradog--Sounds like you are a little stressed with a lack of time. I hope it was just a bad day, and something on the forum was your last straw. I can see your frustration of there always being something new to buy, its tough trying to keep up with the jones. But this forum does cost money to run and AG is trying to run a company. I for one, sometimes forget that fact.

I can tell you that I am probably the poorest member on this site as I am over 100k in debt. My vehicle stays outside 24/7 and with the ever changing weather up here, I am lucky to get a wash in without it raining, snowing, sleeting etc. I dont have a pot to pee-pee in or a window to throw it out of, but am glad there are forums to help show the proper tools, techniques, etc of how to detail for the pro and hobbyist. I see the seperation of members here as this.

1) Professional. Might be a hobbyist that turned pro, but makes their lively hood detailing, or selling product.
2) Hobbyist. Person who knows better then to use a bath towel, and spends free time detailing own vehicle. can sometimes be convinced to do the GF/Wife/IN-Laws/ etc for a few beers and seom food.
3) Newbie. Those members that still think bath towels work best for drying and have never heard of sealant, polish, AIO, etc.

I am a newbie hobbyist, more leaning on the newbie side. Just my .02 as I have gone on way too long. I hope you can find what I have found here, in that there is good information tucked into almost every post. Just have to weed out the info you don't need.

I guess I really don't understand your frustration paradog. You make it sound as if so many on here are acting high and mighty or talking down to you. Maybe I've missed those threads, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone acting that way on here. Maybe on Autopia you might get that by a few, but over here that doesn't make much sense. As far as pushing all the products, that's only natural, this is Autogeek's forum so it's only natural that most of the discussion will entail their products.

I don't know, maybe you should give us more detail about what has gotten you frustrated rather than throwing out these generalizations.

ok, wow. im a poor college kid, taking over 15 hours a week of classes, over 40 hours of colligiate athletic practices, 8 hours of mandatory study hall, and a part time job on top of it, plus detailing when i can on the side.

dont even start about time and money, however, I dont consider myself in your "rest" group.

this forum is DESIGNED for support for products that the geek sells, which is why the "pros" suggest their favs. for the particular area of cleaning you so desire. why are you snapping at those who help?

Let me also just add that there is a place on this forum where samples can be exchanged between members.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...-samples-exchanges-between-forum-members.html

I know for myself I have given away lots of samples to other forum members. I get absolutely nothing out of it except the satisfaction of being able to share products with someone else and the anticipation of them trying a great product and getting results with it.

It's a great way to try before you buy especially if you are strapped for cash, and the only catch is that you have to "pay it forward" to someone else when you are able. :)

:iagree: Jen was nice enough to send me products that I was wanting to try. Thanks again Jen, when it finally gets warm here I am going to be bugging you on how to use each.

LOL It was my pleasure. And I'll be happy to help you in any way I can if it ever gets warm in Michigan again. ;) lol I'm so bad. hehehehehehehe

obviously some people don't read all the stuff up here, either. oh well.
that being said, we still have a right in this country, and most of us here are fairly good about stuff.
everyone has the right to their opinion whether or not we agree..........agree to disagree!

I can vent some of my issues as well.

1- People posting details with no before pictures or before pictures in different conditions- I can see if the weather turns .... but a before picture of a black vehicle in full sun covered in swirls compared to dim lighting after shots not revealing swirls isn't right. I think that people should try the best to get full sun shots before and after, especially when they are reviewing a product. It is quite easy to "hide" or not show a product to its fullest potential by taking pictures in poor lighting conditions making the paint look good.

2- People complaining about products and say that they don't work- when they can ask and make sure they are using the product right. There is a learning cure to every tool and product. Make sure you are using the product correctly/properly before you say anything against it. I will say that people can / should be able to display their feelings of a product when they put the product through the paces and use it correctly. Not every person will like the same products...

3- Search function... enough said

I'm sorry that you feel that folks here are categorized. I find them all helpful and willing to go the extra mile to assist someone......even idiots like me.

I have to agree with a LOT of things that are said here.

Paradog - I know how you feel, I sometimes get the same vibes. Everyone keeps saying this and that, we are all here to help. Obviously some people work in better conditions with better products and results. I think we expect these results as well, and unfortunately we fall short. Truth is, a lot fall short, and it sucks that it happens when others are getting amazing results. Not everyone here is treated the same, but whatever its life.

Lauren - I know how you feel about the pics, and Killr says not to talk about it, but I'll say this real quick. I'm a guy, and I didn't like them. Enough about that from me.

College kids/family people who work a lot and still have time to detail, congrats to you. You have great time management and can find the time to do the things you want. Some people can't make it happen and just because YOU can doesn't mean everyone else can.

I am not sure where this thread came from, I must have missed something, but I will say this, this forum is not here to push someone into buying. This forum is a venue for everyone to learn more about what we offer and how to use our products effectively. A LOT OF MEMBERS spend many hours each week posting reviews and answering questions, from the most basic to the most difficult. This is a place to come to learn, get advice and see how others are getting results. No need to participate in each thread if it does not pertain to you, or if you do not like something in it. We keep it clean, fun, educational, PLUS we like to give stuff away on here. All in all I like the way the forum has been helping out others. If anyone has a specific problem PM me, I will help you, I will do the best I can to keep EVERYONE happy. Of course when you get a diverse group together that is about impossible, but I am willing to try. I love all of you being here, and I am so glad to be a part of this forum!:grouphug:

can we bring this back on topic ... Paradog, how 'bout some further explanation to the issue your having and can we help ???

This is an off topic thread; how can it be off topic then?
Besides, it was a rant. paradog agrees on that topic too, ask him yourself. there.
Enough said! THE END.

I otherwise love ag.
But nothing and no one is perfect!
back to my green van detail and my next ag order........

I agree that is tough to keep a car clean when it. Exposed to elements 24/7, birds dropping their $#!&, risk of dogs peeing on it or envy neighbors, etc. It's tough, sometimes i want to do it really bad, and sometimes is like: "For what?" Just the fact of seeing it clean gives me enough motives to keep going. Hope this helps, paradog.

Now, probably I will get a shut up from this, but I think we all need to think what we say and post, not only here in AG, but everywhere we have an active account. Some people will be ok, and some will not, and we need to respect that. I can try something once, and if it offends or bothers someone, I'll try to avoid it. Just my couple cents...

And now, family hug:grouphug:

Joey:cheers:

I work in all enviroments. This morning was 34* here. Sucked. My hands ached for an hour.

Professional detailing is a tough job. Maybe the "rest" category are the ones sitting in an office for 8 hours in the warmth and they get to play on the computer. Some days I wish I was the "rest" then.

That was my rant.
