Four step rinseless wash

I use about 1-1/2 qts of water (distilled water even better) in the bucket with the towels. The MF towels soak all of the water up. I actualy squeeze most the water out the MF towels before using them. So no D114 in the bucket. I was surpriised how good just plain old water is. Originally I did put D114 diluted 128:1 in the bucket but I found that plain water works fine. That is the fun of this just trying and comparing different products and different techniques. Starting on a small panel before using it on the entire car.

Wow... Ok.

I thought you had RW in the bucket. You are lucky you don't have swirls. And you've checked in direct sunlight?

Oh boy. So the purpose of doing a rinseless wash with no rinseless wash is...economy?

I tried D114 at 128:1 and could not notice any difference other than the D144 had more of a tendency to run. If D114 gave me better results, I would use it on the whole car regardless of cost.

I also believe it is better to clean the car and then wax rather than clean and wax the car at the same time with a single product as some of the dirt will remain in the wax. So if I did not just use water, I would use D114 (no wax in it) and after drying the panel, THEN wax it.

So you use the UQW after every wash? Which is how often? And you live where?

Because if you live somewhere it doesn't rain often, and you wash fairly often (like once a week) and wax after every wash, then I can see the surface being slick enough for you maybe get away with washing with just water.

If it works for you, great--I just can't see recommending this process for people that have a "normal" dirt load on the car.

Dave,

After getting your post just to double check I backed my black semi daily driver 2012 Accord out of the garage into direct sunlight and could find no swirls and the car is 3 years old. Now a halogen light may be more revealing but if I can not see a swirl in direct sunlight, I am not going to worry about seeing a swirl with a halogen light. Perhaps I have a hard clear coat.

That being said anytime you wash your car and you are touching the paint with a wash mitt, MF, or WW towel, you are taking a chance of introducing swirls. It is just a matter of reducing the risk. This may not be the best method for reducing that risk, but I have found this is a pretty good method for those of us with severe water restrictions. I actually like this method and may not go back to my foam gun and 2 bucket method when the restrictions are lifted. I can do part of the car or all of the car, come in and have lunch and go back out and finish. No setting up, breaking down and cleaning the foam gun. No having to time the wash to make sure the car stays in the shade. No more blowing out water from cracks. No more leaf blower drying.

Mike,

Great post. Strangely enough I have found Ultima's WW+ and a MF towel seems to work best for cleaning the dash and panels in the interior of my car. Go figure. Windows tires and wheels are still a puzzle for me.

I don't see how it would use more water to reduce the risk by actually using rinseless wash as part of your rinseless wash regimen.

it appears everyone has their own opinion on Rinse-less & water-less.

But i am sure i would want something with lubrication and dirt lifting/encapsulation abilities beyond just water to do either option.

Wait so to be clear, there are times when you don't use any D114 anywhere in the process?
