Fraud

my wife works for a bank, she went through the Target and Home Depot credit car fraud. a lot of the time its not the person at the register that copies the card, most of the time it's people that hack in and get batches of card numbers and sell them to whom ever will buy them.

Out of the list that you posted my $ is on a card skimmer on the Sheetz pump. But dealing with this stuff for a living the card was probably hacked previously.

But even we've been had, wife used a brand new debit card at a Buffalo Wild Wings and the next day someone in FL used it to buy a fuel pump for an S10 pickup. We're in VA.

Gonna go the 'other way' here...

Couple years back we were in Seattle and purchased gas on our bank card (we normally use a different card-I used the wrong one)), within 5 min wife's cell rings. It is our local bank inquiring. Not about the purchase, but the location the card was used.

Good catch!

sucks when you have dishonest people who do illegal activities such as this. people who do these kind of things deserve to get their fingers chopped off...

UPDATE. Guess this was WIDESPREAD in the area. The hacks were working out of eastern PA and NJ. Still waiting on my new card and paperwork. Talked to my bank. Of course your out of that money till the paperwork clears. About 10 days. Heard the average hack was $500 to being cleaned out.

Got a call from Chase that they thought that a fraudulent charge had been made with my VISA card. Yep.
Had the card cancelled and a new one is in FedEx.

About over. Sent the paperwork in today. Got the new debit card yesterday. The bank acually gave credit to the account the 19th for the two charges.

Only if it's top shelf booze.

I'm in Im the MAN

FYI- since this happens so much (only once to me though) I started using my credit card only and I dumped my debit card. This way, if they do get my cc, the bank is out the money, not me. There is no wait time to get my money back.

THIS. :xyxthumbs:

I've been hacked a few times and with a CC, it actually was a relatively painless process. I've had friends get their debit card hacked and it was a huge PITA and they had their whole account tied up (with no access to THEIR money) until it was resolved.

This is why I do not use a debit card, cause its your money, not just credit.

They probably had a skimmer installed on the pump at the gas station. Down in South Florida, detectives found dozens of skimmers in self serve gas station pumps. It takes your card, and send the number to someone nearby. They either use it themselves or sell the numbers on the black market. If they sell the number, the person who buys it often will charge a small amount to a charity to make sure the card is good and something like that wont raise any flags with the card company.

This is why its important to check the statements every month and run a free credit report at least once a year.

I'm not sure how Google Wallet works but one of the benefits of Apply Pay is when you pay with a credit card it doesn't send the credit card number and instead uses something similar to a virtual account number online. So if it was stolen you would never have your actual credit card number stolen.

There are so many ways they can get your card it's insane.

And yes, we are all entitled to a FREE credit report once a year. Take advantage of it :dblthumb2:

Talked to a neighbor. It was IDEAL MARKET. Where ever they info go's on their card readers (eastern PA) That is the location it was hacked.
