Blackstone Laboratories
That's the best place to get a Used Oil Analysis. They'll send you a free testing kit.

Actually yes. I have heard that every gas station can have different additives put in the gas. And that if you go to a shell in Cali it will be different from the shell gas in Texas for example. There is a big conspiracy that the gas companies play all sorts of tricks to make your car get worse MPG than it really should be getting. What a great world we live in...MTHall51 said:My first tank I filled up on my Taurus got about 26 mpg with Shell 91 Octane. next fill up was with Exxon 91 octane but mpg dropped to around 22 mpg. Same driving style, same route. Does that make any sense? Well, yesterday filled up at the Shell gas station. Will report on the mpg.

Gas is all the same, but they each add their additives to the tanks before being transported......all I know is I go to Nexstore here and get better gas mileage then using Mobil, Chevron, Exxon and Marathon, any of those and I average 12-13 mpg, at Nexstore I get about 15 mpg with no difference in driving style and daily traffic to the office. Funny part is their the cheapest as well (but its a nice station with big food mart, like a mini Publix lol), filled up at 2.80 for regular while everyone else was like 3.10Thejoyofdriving said:Actually yes. dontsleeponit said:Do Tell More! Mobile 1 is the factory oil for the 05-06 GTO, but from what I can tell it runs a standard PF52 Delco filter...
blk45 said:That's the truth about premium. They have been marketed as being "better" for your car and so many people buy into it. If you don't have high compression and/or advanced timing, premium is actually worse for your car, as you stated. If the motor requires it, it will be stated on the gauge and/or filler door.

It all averages out to be the same via on board computer.

LOL good luck and post your resultsThejoyofdriving said:I guess my cumbustion chamber must be very very clean then...........When I get pulled over im going to use that one
COP:
" son, why were you going 60 in a 25?" ME: "I was just cleaning out my cumbustion chamber officer..."
Ding Ding Ding we have a winner, like mentioned unless you have a high compresson motor or advace timing you don't need it and can't burn it (assuming you have a stock ingnition and not an aftermarket multi spark system [MSD,Mallory, ect, ect]). If you have been using it (premuim) for a bit you will probably go though your first tank (83 octane) quickly. Gotta give your computer a chance to readjust.MTHall51 said:My daily driver is nothing fancy. A normal 6 cylinder motor. Manual says it will run on 87. I use Lucas fuel additive usually with an ocassional BG cleaning. So, if I buy into what the Shell gas station owner says and run high Octane, not only would it be a waste of money, but may actually tend to deposit energy robbing deposits as well? Just checking. If I got that straight I will pass the word on to some friends as well.
