Hey all,

I have a question regarding my detailing process. I have been telling a few family members that I would detail their cars for the last month or so, but I have been really busy with work and have not had time. This weekend seems to work for everyone so I am planning on tackling 2 cars, an acura cl and subaru legacy. I have 2 days to complete both cars, interior and out. Both cars will need a full polish because they are atleast 6 years old and have never been polished to my knowledge.

My current process I follow is:
paint:
wash
clay
tape
megs ultimate compound
m205
iso wipedown
collinite 845

interior:
vacuum
shampoo carpet
dp interior cleaner
dp interior protectant
windows

however, I recently bought some optimum poly-seal and if I could kill 2 birds with one stone and cut out m205 and collinite that would be great. If there is not enough cut in poly-seal to be a good finisher on top of ultimate compound, I understand and I will try to save time somewhere else.

Usually it takes me most of a weekend to complete this process (1.5 days) so if there is a way to simplify some steps that would be ideal.

I am open to all suggestions.

thanks in advance

See if you can get one of the cars Friday after work and get it washed so it will be ready for polishing first thing Saturday

Then get the second car washed late Saturday, ready for polishing first thing Sunday

The is all the advice I have for you @ this time :)

I have a feeling that you will be your own worst critic here. If the car's haven't been polished in 6 years "they" will not be hard to impress. I would go with UC followed by Poli-Seal and cut out the M-205, 845. The 845 would have better durability but time is time so some sacrifices will have to be made.

I would have them bring the cars to the auto touchless car wash before dropping them off for you to work on to cut down on your washing effort in the interest of time.

Dave is right... you've got to be reasonable about what you expect to get out of the vehicles. If they haven't been detailed at all in the last 6 years, pretty much anything is going to be an improvement. If they want absolute perfection, they're going to have to be ready and willing to leave the vehicles with you longer.

I agree with what everyone else said. Also for the future look into the Megs MF system. It will make your life so much easier.

thanks for the replies

would poli-seal work well enough as a finisher to ultimate compound? On certain paints the after effects of ultimate compound are acceptable as far as shine goes. But other paints require an additional step because the paint is soft and the finish looks somewhat dull or hazy after using uc. I have never used poli-seal before but I hear it provides good protection (These cars are daily drivers and are driven in new england). I want to prepare them for the upcoming winter, and if I can get around to it, maybe put a coat of 845 on at a later date.

I will certainly try to get some work done on them friday, but most likely I will try to tackle the interior then, leaving one day for paint correction on each.

Humm to say full detail / I will say Basic Plus!!!

To say full / is when Head light restoration or some cleaning & protectan is involved.

Detail all your exterior chrome / grill / emblems / Old wax remove from door jams, windows.

exterior plastic for sure detail

If there are hard water spots on paint or windows / to remove them

any wet sanding involve?

wheels to dirty / or hard to clean & detail

headliner? not an easy one to do fast

set of seat belts? most of the use cars, have bad seat belts

For me, to say FULL DETAIL / is to involve this much!! anything else I call it Semi-Detail or Basic Plus!!!

Don't get me wrong, it is nice what you are gonna do there. but I suggest to. One at a time!!!
Fast jobs ain't a Detail!!!

Poliseal will finish out fine on top of 105/UC on softer paints, but the durability stinks. In your case I'd do D151 and then top with 845.
