Anyone ever go at late model Volvo paint with a dual action polisher?
I did my hood this weekend and it was hard work, but pretty satisfying.
First time with a DA.
I have light swirls in the hood and shoulders of my 2011 C30.
I was surprised that two passes with Megs Ultimate Compound and a yellow Meguiars 'polishing' pad only reduced the swirls. Didn't take them completely out on my hood. You can only see the swirls in direct, overhead, bright sunlight - but they're there. They weren't bad at all to begin with either. Someone who wasn't a freak would say the car was showroom condition before I started in on it. Im the MAN
I'm waiting for an LC orange pad in the mail and I'm going to try it again. Hopefully, a more aggressive pad will do it. Haven't tried to go at the swirls in the shoulders yet - I have some 4 inch pads coming for that. It's nice not to have a trunk lid on this car. One less swirly panel to obsess about.
Anyone ever try to get swirls out of a late model Volvo? Is the clear really hard or something? I thought for sure a polishing grade pad and a medium compound would do it.
Especially two passes.
Any suggestions for a noob other than go to a more aggressive pad?
Here's some cellphone pics of the car model if anyone doesn't know it. Color callout is Orange Flame Metallic:
