G15 0r G21?

I just got my G15 and I am loving it. I went over my Jeep hood again and it totally removed all swirls vs my Porter Cable which i guess i needed more passes. In about 15 mins i did the whole hood. It feels like a professionals machine.

Went with the 15 and made the right choice for my needs.
Also bought BOSS line up of pads and polishes. I was highly impressed with the results.
Corrects much faster the Megs G110 which served me well for a long time.
Here are some before and after pics.

RJ67 - nice job!!! What a nice car you have!! P.S. Do you know if it is necessary/required to use the BOSS pads, or can you also use another pad such as the Lake Country CSS pads?

Thank you sir! I considered other pad and polish combinations but decided to try the Griot's lineup. It was easy to use, long working time and little or no dusting.

Ski2 - what pads are you currently using with your G15? Are you just using the new low profile pads, or have you also tried other pads? I saw a vid that indicated you should use their proprietary pads (the new thin ones you mentioned), but wondering if there is any reason not to use LC CSS pads if you have a large quantity/investment in them?

When I got my G15 earlier this year I was using my B&S 5.5" pads (they are about 7/8" thick) which I had for my GG6. It did a great job, but had a chance to try the new B&S Low-Pro pads--the G15 was even smoother so I ordered a full set.

Here's a review I did on the B&S Low-Pros: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...e-low-pro-foam-pads-long-throw-polishers.html

Just ordered the G15 today. Weekend warrior here coming from the Harbor Freight DA polisher. A small step up?

Gosh, don't know which to go for. I have a gg6 gg3 so I was thinking of converting my gg6 to a only 3inch pad device and buying a BOSS. I was thinking with the gg6 with 3iinch backing plate, could work where the 21 doesn't work because of throw.

Or should I go for the 15? Is the 21 (with 5in backing plate) really bad that impractical if I work on mostly cars? Thinking of doing this on the side now if I get a boss...

since you already have both the GG3/6 i would get the G21. you pretty much will have all your basis covered... :xyxthumbs:

I am in the very same spot as you with regards to having the 3" & 6" and looking for a long throw to round it off. From everything I can tell is that the 21 is more geared to large panels and more of a professional tool than for entusiasts because they can cause damage on your paint if not properly trained/experienced. The 15 is more of the all around good guy and that can go everywhere and get into tigher spots and contours. Plus you can drop down to a 5" pad where as the 21 with a 5" is more of a hazard waiting to happen. As soon as there is one wiff of a sale on those things I am going to get mine.

Hmmm....

Is that true about the 21 being a 'professional level tool' and damage with a5inch pad?

Maybe the 15 is for me....thoughts from anyone that has the 21 in that regard?

If you do a forum search for 15 vs 21 long throw polishers, almost 10/10 pros will flat out tell you that. I even called Griots to ask them for myself about that as well as a lot of other questions (are they going to get into the coatings game? Will there be a next gen 3" that works?) and they agreed that the 15 was a more well rounded machine.

No, how is a 21 with a 5" pad going to do any damage? The 5" BP along with the washer mod is a favourite combo among pro's.

Sorry bro, but I see you on all of the polisher threads bashing anything that isn't the Rupes and whatever your opinion might be about them at the moment. So for starters THE MANUFACTURERS of these polishers TELL YOU NOT TO PUT A 5" PLATE ON THEM AND WILL VOID THE WARRANTY. So with that said, the smaller pad on the larger orbit just invites damage. That is coming from pros that have WAY more experience and cred than you. If that isn't enough, then please feel free to call the manufacturers and let's see YOU tell their engineers why your OPINION is far more superior than their facts. So I'll tell you what, I'll buy you a beer if you let me sit in on that conversation because the laughs to be had will be stellar.

Seeing as your comprehension skills leave alot to be desired, let me rephrase a question more easy to understand.

How does a smaller pad invite damage?

Now focus, don't get sidetracked and answer just the question as you seem very far from being informed.

As far as the G21/G15 polishers and backing plates go, both sized backing plates are approved through Griots to be used on both polishers. It's not a hazard at all. Dunno where you're coming up with that. I have been running my G21 with two washers(also sent by Griots) and a 5'' BP since I got it. It has been great.

Zubair is absolutely right.

Here's the instruction manual if you need concrete proof:

I'll tell you what a number of other users here told me when I asked: just get the 21 now. You're fine to use the 5 inch backing plate and you still get the advantage of the largest throw. I don't regret it at all and it's certainly not dangerous. The only thing to be aware of is you definitely need a smaller polisher for some of the more intricate areas that the large throw+pad size makes it hard to get to.

I have 4 Boss units and 2 of them are already out of service due to mechanical issues. One somehow lost its balance as the plate wobbles no matter how I try to fix it and the second is making a high pitched scream. Something internal is not right. I will be sending them back to Griot's for them to take care of which is never an issue, but I'm not impressed with the durability of these units at all.
