Garage Color

I am about to paint the interior of the garage. I am trying to decide on the color. I think either a light gray or a white will work best, but I am unsure which would be better. My main concern is not aesthetics, but the way the wall color will interact with the paint when inspecting for defects and such. It is a 1 car garage, so the walls are close to the vehicle. Is there an advantage to having the paint one color or another when polishing, waxing, applying product?
 
I'll suggest:
Sherwin-Williams' "ceiling white"...eggshell finish.

I would go with white the reason begin is that it makes the room feel somewhat bigger and when you set up your lighting it will be bright that way you can achieve best results with paint correction, and such
 
^+1, white may help reflect the light for better lighting. The lighting in my garage sucks so I would do whatever I could to make it better.
 
thanks for the replies guys, white is what I was thinking as well. funx, why do you sagest ceiling white in eggshell? I was planning on using a semi-gloss for the easy of cleaning and water repellent.
 
Hmm semi-gloss for the reasons you just said makes sense. As long as you can deal with your walls shiny like Black Magic Tire Shine :laughing:

No not that bad. I like the semi-gloss idea but interested in hearing what Bob says!
 
I agree with Bob. Satin or eggshell finish would be best. I've found that gloss and semi gloss are a bit too reflective for proper lighting and can cause glare which causes your eyes to go a little buggy when your trying to get them to focus in on paint defects.

I just painted my garage and used flat white exterior paint for durability.

-Good water repellency starts with the primer.
-Might be best to go with an exterior primer/paint combo (probably oil-based).
-Semi-gloss' sheen can wind-up being near mirror-like...creating blinding spots/glare, IMO.
-Kilz makes pretty good primers/paints---even eggshell.

Take some pictures of your garage painting project, (along with a short write-up of your intentions for your reference), to some of your local paint stores.
They will be able to point you, moreso in the right direction towards an acceptable solution...
than I probably can sitting here merely tapping out suggestions.

IMHO:
You don't want to have to do this paint job too often; vehicles are relegated to the Great Outdoors when tying-up your garage to do so.
