Gel Coat?

Hey guys. My friend has a boat that is kinda lacking the looks right now. It's got a blue strip that goes around the boat, and it's very faded, just looks crap. Could I just use the same process as I would on a car? He was telling me something about gel coat restorer or some crap, but I'm just wondering if I could polish it?

try 3m fiberglass polish....can be found at any marina. I bought some and used it on my snowboard. People also use it on their carbon fiber gel coated stuff.
