Although mine is a bigger one for our home, we have a North Star generator that uses a Honda motor. About half the price of a full blown Honda.
We have one that is 6600 watts and 8800 peak.
Since buying it 10 years ago it has powered our home during many many outages including Super Storm Sandy and a freak early October snow storm the year before. It ran 7 days during Sandy and 6 1/2 for the snow storm. We did turn it off for about 2 hours a day to check the oil and such.
Just another brand to check out.
Good Luck.
Sorry for hijacking. I have a Generac GP5500 unit
I ran my generator for 8 hours per day for two weeks during sandy. Had to conserve gas as you couldn't get gas as the stations were down. Since then I put a propane, natural gas, and regular gas conversion kit on my Generac. I then put in a panel to control the generator to my main electric panel and a 1" natural gas line to the outside of the house with quick disconnects and locks for running a gas hose to the generator. When the power went out last for 7 days the generator was stopped every 100 hours to change the oil and once every 24 hours for 5 minutes to check the oil. Ran it on natural gas for about $10.00. If I ran it on gasoline it would have been about $200.00
