Tommorow I'll be buffing out our Geo Tracker. It's in great shape but it has lots of swirls that only a rotary can touch. This thread will contain detailed before and after pics inside and out. My steps will be as follows:

Wash - Meg's Hyper Wash and Chennille Mitt
Clay - Meg's Professional Mild Clay
Rewash - Same as step 1
Polish - 3M PI II and polishing pad, I have a feeling I'll need more bite but we'll see
Glaze - Meg's #7 SCG - PC - finishing pad on 4
Wax - Meg's NXT - PC on 3 or 4

Interior:
Shop Vac Interior
Wipe down and clean carpets
Pressure Wash carpet mats - rubber

Wheels & Tires - Wash & Wax Meg's NXT
Tires - Clean with Super Clean - dress with Turtlewax Tirewax

looks good, but you dont need to rewash after claying. I use soapy water to clay my car, first i wash the car then rinse, then soap the car up and clay, then rinse and dry.

I would be careful pressure washing the floor mats(if they are carpet) there is a good chance you could ruin them. The pressure can cause the carpet to become loose and the mat can fall apart prematurely. If they are the rubber ones by all means blast away.

the floor mats are rubber, there just some cheap Valuecraft heavy duty mats.

Guys I need to apologize, I keep forgetting my parents took our camera to Ireland for pictures so I don't have any recent pics of our vehicles. My bad completely! Here is, however one pic of our Geo this past winter when it got it's new tires. I hope you all can forgive me and my brain! it likes to fart alot sometimes lmao!!

PLEASE HELP!

I'm in the middle of buffing our Geo. My Rotary is splattering product everywhere!! I'm tired, I'm pissed off and I have honest to god tried every technique I can think of.

Reduce speed - no help
Pad flat - no help
Apply polish on pad - a small circle around the outer edge of the pad - no help
Apply a small bead of polish onto the paint surface - no help

Is it just the nature of the beast for rotary splatter or am I seriously missing something? I spray my pad with water every other panel and spur the pad every panel. I love my rotary and the work it can do, not to mention the shine is awesome but this splatter is killing me!!! Anyone with some suggestions, advice I am ALL EARS!! -Mike-

If you put the product on the panel is a straight line, then you can angle the pad slightly upwards and at low speed follow the line to get the product onto the pad. continue to spread it around at low speed, then pick up the speed and continue buffing.

I would first start at the lowest speed (normally 300-500 depending on machine) and spread it evenly acorss your panel and then increase to desired speed. I tend to use a lot of product when I use a rotary, only because I like to and I have very little splatter.

thanks guys! I tried picking the product up with the buffer and that works sometimes, but when it does, it works nicely so I need to tweak on that technique.

However, I managed to simply reduce the product being used onto the pad. I just put 2 small dots on opposite sides of the pad, smear it around the panel and begin buffing. This reduced splatter tremendously. I get very little splatter this way and I'm only seeing minor halograms, not the kind you see at dealerships. I've had my rotary for several years now but I don't use it often, so I think only experience can help me master my rotary. -Mike-

Well I can officially say the Geo is done!! But wow, what a clean up job to remove the splatter! some old toothbrush and water did the trick! dawn and water spray bottle mix for the trim then applied Meg's #40 for dress up.

The paint looks great but due to it is 10 yrs old, there are some remaining defects. I would have to upgrade to a heavy cut compound and wool pad or wetstand and then polish. But it's a daily driver and for how it came out, it looks 10X's better! I am pleased! I also decided to apply some Meg's PlasticX polish to the convertible top windows which also had some severe swirling. Not show car results but much better!

The interior looks good along with some air freshners from AZ. There weren't any stains to remove so that made the job that much easier.

When my parents return, I will get some pics for you all. All this talk means nada without pics, right!?!? lol! Thank you all for your advice and the willingness to share your knowledge! means alot to me -Mike-

Looking forward to all that hard work you just put in to the vehicle, I'm sure it turned out great but I love pictures ;)

yes, pics will come.

Next project is our 02 Grand Prix GT. Maybe the Harley, we'll see -Mike-
